Curd is finally gone. She was lazy in travel ball and continued in college
She never bought into being that dog that Duke needed. Instead of training hard she never really trained over the summer.
They will get better. Trust me.

I heard from a close friend whose daughter is on the team.
Everyone is leaving except 1 from the current pitching staff They need someone to develop their staff. Two freshman pitchers are coming in.
Legette is staying.

Mass has always been a great pitcher.
She will hit the glove 10 times in a row and then hum one to the back stop. Great pitcher though.
She did a podcast about this back in February.
She needs to remind herself to pump the brakes sometimes to paraphrase what she said.

She’s is cancer.
She was suspended for conduct detrimental to the team. She was rumored to have been involved in some sort of bullying teammates due to her not pitching.

I was thinking the same thing
But would it have been better for our depth to have taken 3 pitchers in the 2025 recruiting class instead of 2. I know the freshman pitcher at UNC was high on our list, when we got the top 2 she was scratched off.
Rumor is she was striking out/holding Carolina’s top line up at bay in scrimmages. Only has pitched 6 innings to date.

Taylor is a great kid.
She has a lot of spin and movement.
Another local Raleigh/Wake Forest player.
Was an ECU commit prior to Queens. Then she transferred to Charlotte.

She has a full time job as a RN at a local hospital while in school.
She said she had over 100 schools reach out to her once she entered the portal.

The one in Chattanooga is nice
I was in the dugout a few weeks back for a week long tournament. Great facility.
My daughter was commenting how awesome it was to play on a field where a few weeks back AUSL played.

Her grandfather “Pops”, is my daughters hitting coach here in Wake Forest
He was hoping she was coming home. Her father’s health hasn’t been great since his heart attack and then organ transplants. Not saying this was why she chose Duke, but being close to family means a lot.
Her sister is going to UCLA in the fall btw.
And one of her brothers plays for the U in football.

I was sitting behind her dad when she hit it.
She sat on the pitch and crushed it.
Duke’s pitching is so so right now. Curd is warn down. Church smoked that home run off of her earlier in the game.

Cool story I have to share about Jordan
My daughter’s hitting coach is Robert “Pops” Young, Marissa Young’s dad. We had a lesson last night and we were talking about VT and he brought up Jordan. Talked about her being a Duke commit at one time, but wanted to start her freshman year, so she decomitted and chose VT. That was a promise that Duke couldn’t offer.
He said Duke missed out on a great kid and a special family.

She had a real nice throw to get the girl out advancing to second.
One of our girls from our high school is a freshman at ECU.
Brooke got a nice hit in front of her parents and her high school coach. Good to see.
State also rotated a lot of their freshman in and out of the lineup.

I’d love to add to this post…. And I will keep it positive.
I’m going to say this they have moved on.
Hopefully giving back to the sport will give them closure in the college coaching profession. They have two girls who are in the sport and wanted an opportunity to coach them. Hopefully it works out for them. My daughter got into this sport because of them, some 6 years ago, when she was 8.

She is. First time in the summer though.
We went last year. Went to the nc state VT wrestling match the day before. She knows most of the players on the team, so she of course was talking with them.

I’m hoping that she is next month too.
My daughter met her 3 years ago while in 6th grade. Jayme asked her what position she played. My daughter replied and said 1st base was her favorite, but everyone says that I’m too short to do it.
Jayme told her you don’t have to be tall to play first, it’s all about your glove.
My daughter still plays 1st and hopefully gets to learn something new month from Jayme.

More like where is Josh Johnson from?
I know a friend’s daughter whom he recruited this past recruiting year. VT picked up their top two pitching recruits and so she ended up committing to UNC. She loved his coaching style and really wanted to play for him. She met him at Miss St.
So I think JJ could be part of the connection.
Good coaching brings in talent.

Not what happened there.
The story from what I was told was with the $$$ offered to incoming class compared to returning quality players.
The conference POY is the one who will go to a good school and fit in with that program well. Their pitcher too.
