Several years ago - she was a freshman or sophomore - she reached out to interview me for a class project (I don't know the subject - probably the craziest person you know...lol).
She was extremely prepared and kept calling me "Mr. Grubb" and saying "yes, sir" and "no, sir."
I stopped her and said, "Jayme, you don't need to be so formal with me." Her response was a classic: "Mr. Grubb, that was just the way I was raised - my parents would be disappointed if I didn't do that."
After five years, we eventually compromised to "Mr. Chip."
She's a special young lady and will be missed.

Snap. I didn’t know that. Again, as message posters…yeah, me included, as
we direct our *frustration* on play on the field, we never…and I mean never know what, in full, is going on with our student athletes. I, for one, need to try to remember that. Jayme’s right. Softball is just a game. She’s dealing with life and death, here. Amazing, she powered through like she did. Love the players that Coach Pete brings to campus. Such wonderful reps for the University. how much THIS was going through her mind in addition to all of the other emotions during her final at bat in the NCAAs. You could tell after that final strike that ended her at bat, ended the game, ended VT's season and ended Jayme's career, Jayme was overcome with emotion as she about crumbled to the ground. All of those things just mentioned would be enough but one has to think thoughts of her brother also added to it. Thanks for being such a fierce competitor Jayme!

How in the world was she able to keep her focus all year and not commit
even 1 single error? There really was just an absolute swirling pile of poo around the team this entire year. I am really amazed it turned out as well as it did. That was a good group right there. Tougher'n hell!
