Hey @Chris Coleman have you seen the Pressure movie yet?

I’ve head some good things about it, although the casting of Eisenhower could have been better, so I’m told. Interestingly, my Dad was a weather forecaster in the Azores during the war. The British were there under agreement with Portugal, but the American presence was classified Secret at the time. My Dad was also in London toward the end of the war, when a German V-5 rocket hit a few miles away. Rattled all the glass off the windows, so he told me. Passed in 2005. I made sure he saw the WWII memorial in DC before he died.

Nice seeing you again @VTChip and meeting @laphroaig for

the first time. I’ll be rooting from NoVa today, since I have band practice tonight. Still, my wife and I enjoyed two games in person. Perfect weather. Coincidentally, we were at the team hotel and saw some of the girls there. I always try to go out of my way to encourage them. They are such quality individuals. I was impressed with how they cleaned out the dugout after yesterday’s game. Not a speck of trash left behind! Not so great was the “F*** tech” bomb during the good old song after Friday’s game. The lady sitting next to us, the grandmother of the UVA second and final pitcher, warned us ahead of time that some people do that. It didn’t look like their team did it from what I saw. My wife was really turned off by it. She mentioned it to a stadium usher the next day, an elderly lady who has worked there for years. She said it has been going on awhile, and even the players do it. The latter shocks me if true, hopefully isn’t. I get that every fan base, including VT, has its knuckleheads. But if the players are participating, that seems to violate every principle of sportsmanship. The teams are close, I believe. But the person working there says folks and players do it, even when Tech isn’t playing. All that said, it seems fans of both teams sat together in peace. That’s not always a given in this day and age.

So what did the team do today on their day off in Boston? Something fun I

hope? Or just chill at the hotel, catch up on homework, practice and/or walk through the park? Or a combination of the two? Lots to see and do up there🙂

What about a bottle of water?

@Chris Coleman there is a new movie out called Fackham Hall that I

think you might like. Put out by Bleeker Street, it is a British Comedy spoofing Downton Abbey. Elements of Monty Python and Naked Gun. Perhaps you’ve already heard of or seen it? Clip below of the Vicar at a wedding had me in stitches 😆 There are a couple other previews out as well.

Interesting that in this years ACC tournament, the higher seed won every

game except for the championship. Don’t see that happen often. ** Edited by Federal Hokie at 5/21/2025, 8:48:08 PM

I wonder what coach Pete and head UVA coach Joanna Hardin were talking

about on the sideline during a disputed call (overruled in favor of UVA I think). Pretty intense moment in a rivalry game, and yet they looked like they were having a friendly chat as if they were at a barbecue or something. Nice to see that they’re friends. Just didn’t expect such friendly chatting in the middle of the game.

Hopefully we can offer a competitive scholarship and NIL position. As the

conference revenues further diverge, I fear that this will become increasingly difficult. Otherwise peer schools (e.g. UMD, UK) will begin to fund better teams simply because they can. We put most if not all of our eggs in the football basket for what many considered a “do or die year” to “audition” for the P2. How’d that work out yesterday in Nashville to an SEC bottom feeder and converted FCS quarterback? I know, I know, this is a softball board, and I love and contribute to the team. But there are larger forces in play, and I’m beginning to feel like even if I increase my giving tenfold, it isn’t going to significantly move the needle without some overarching structural change. And those with the money advantage won’t easily give it up. Sorry for the negativity. I guess I’m still stinging from yesterday (the hype made it worse) and now I feel there is little that can be done to stem an inevitable slide towards being irrelevant in all sports. I do appreciate all you do, and will continue to try to do what I can within reason. Just feeling down at the moment.

Can no longer access message boards on my iPad (7th gen)...

Just get a blank white screen of death. Tried rebooting, to no avail. Help!😔 Posting this from my android pixel 4a... ** Edited by Federal Hokie at 6/14/2024, 9:52:40 PM

Dunno. After they went up 6-4 in the 8th, thought I saw some rain. Maybe

should have reverted back to the 4-4 tie and called it a day (ducks). J/K of course, at least we fight until the end.

True, but we’ll need those bucks to compete in other sports (e.g. softball)

Else, we get poached in those sports by schools with more money to spend, and we risk becoming irrelevant in every sport.

NIL idea: Softball cards, like MLB cards that so many collect and trade.

“I’ll trade you my 2022 Jayme Bailey for your 2023 Bre Peck.” You know, front side with dramatic shot in uniform. Back side with stats and all. I don’t know, maybe the demand isn’t there, what with changing demographics and everything being online. But I would think the athletes could profit off it in some small way. If nothing else, sell 20+ cards for the entire roster each year. Maybe the value increases over time (2022 super regional group is certainly memorable). I might buy a set, even though I don’t really collect much. Maybe a few other old timers would join in? Sorry if this has been thought about or beat to death already.

Rut roh, we've been Run Ruled. Reminds me of being Rick Rolled...

See you Friday and Saturday. Just got tickets for me and the wife. I know,

helping UVA softball I guess. But I live in NoVa, and this might be my only chance to cheer on the Hokies. Plus, I give to VT softball as well😊

Was total for the games played at the sites I think. Still impressive since

Seattle hosting all distant teams outdrew what was essentially a home arena for South Carolina. Lots of interest in WBB up there.

Got my BA at VT and my MS at Ohio State. So I guess I can’t lose tomorrow

night. That said, my rooting interest is much stronger for VT. For Ohio State, I’m more a bandwagon fan/causal rooting interest if VT not involved. Still, fun when they square off. Wife got both her degrees at UMD, also playing tomorrow night. So we have 3 of the Elite 8 covered. She’s more a VT fan through me, doesn’t really follow UMD. Will root for VT over UMD, but not for Ohio State over UMD, should it come to that (unlikely, IMO).
