Can anyone explain why Liberty's runner not called out at 3B? She was
tagged out right? Please don't say it was due to illegal pitch?

They called obstruction on Bre
Just one more thing 😡

It was definitely obstruction.

How? If the ball arrives before the runner? I am not an expert..so
educate please?

Just WOW. I’m not saying there any anti-VT stuff but rather it’s
Political based on WHO WE’RE FACING. Think about it…these umps are into the sport and obviously know Alameda and Dot Richardson as legendary figures in the sport. When they get in the umps’ ears, who do you think they’ll favor? Richardson and Alameda or Gillis and Pete??

That right there may be your answer for today and Sunday’s issues

Let’s see what happens at VT this week.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with HokiePro
*No offense HokiePro...I just try to be more even keeled and neutral...but in this case you are 1000% right I think

I’m definitely over the top in games yes
As I do vent nervous energy and angst here, but I’ve also been around enough to know how the sports world’s politics work

Re: What in the HECK??? As the 3B????
The throw was CLEARLY ahead of the runner..it cannot be called obstruction, by the rules, can it? I think Chip you already answered that question with the mad red face emoji ( i don't know how to reciprocate that lol)
VTChip VTChip
I report the news guys...lol
Please don't ask me to defend the call as that is simply impossible...lol
hokiepro hokiepro
Appreciate it Chip; I didn’t get to see ALL of the game so can you recap
The total number of calls, situations etc in which we were called for a “violation” that were judgement calls by umps ?
VTChip VTChip
That is a hard ask off the top of my head...
Just got home from Lynchburg so haven't reviewed my notes or looked at the game video.

Off of the top of my head:

Illegal pitch calls on Emma - 9
No illegal pitch calls on Kirby - she threw 90 pitches and was airborne on a TON of them
The obstruction call on Bree at third base

hokiepro hokiepro
And Kelsey Brown leaving base early on offense?
VTChip VTChip
Yep, that one too

Love you man...your reply is all the answer we need!

I never figured that out.
The tag definitely beat the runner. The tag was made. If an illegal pitch was called, I don't know if runners can advance without libality to be put out.

Anyone else have an answer?
TomTurkey TomTurkey
THAT would be a STRANGE rule. Equated to a ball thrown out if play.
Sounds like a missed call. Junior was at 3rd, correct?

Possibly base path interference, as our player was blocking third base.
TomTurkey TomTurkey
Did she have the ball and make a tag? That's legit.
H
HokieNerd
Definitely did. It arrived a full second before the runner arrived
If I recall correctly....let's just say this...it WASN'T one of those quick throws to 1st that are iffy. She had the ball in hand and 'made a softball move' (to invoke the stupid NFL rule jargon) for a full second or half second before contact.

I thought during the game it was disallowed becuase of illegal pitch - but now hearing it was not?? That's some serious shady **** IMHO...and now concerned more because I thought this would be a straight up game because of Dot and her pedigree...now I don't know what to believe...

Seriously feeling like 'us against the world'...

I thought she did.
Vienna_Hokie Vienna_Hokie
If it was an IP, runner advances at their own peril
So, I can't explain it.
H
HokieNerd
Is that true in NCAA? My wife and I argued over that
I think they got the base if it was IP....not a rules expert..and wouldn't surprise me if the blue got it wrong anyway..
IB4TECH IB4TECH
IP is just another ball…Right?
Vienna_Hokie Vienna_Hokie
That or a dead ball, either way not on 3rd
If it was a rules interpretation, Pete would have gone to another ump. My guess is he ruled something else, not related to the IP
H
HokieNerd
Yep, I think it was.
