I agree 100%, softball should be funded at a high level, I have said before and I still believe it, I believe softball and women's basketball (without Brooks now) has a greater chance to win a national championship first before any other team sport. I have also said that our softball facility needs to be upgraded and expanded for the current support of the program. People are traveling to watch the Hokies at TSP and on the road. SEC schools see the value in funding their softball programs. Look what FSU and Duke have done recently for their programs. FSU recently completed a multi-million dollar expansion on their softball ballpark. Our coaches need to be taken care of with increased compensation for their continued success on and off the field. Our softball players had a 3.26 team GPA in the Spring, the team is reaching new heights with not a ton of funding, other ACC teams are investing more than VT, but some are not producing on the field like the Hokie ladies softball team. In order for VT to get over the hump in softball, there needs to be more support from our athletic department. A newly renovated stadium to increase capacity and to add other amenities like they did for baseball down the right field line, the covered area with seating areas and tables and chairs, picnic areas would go a long way in promoting our program for top recruits. The thing is, our coaches are already doing this, but some of those higher rated recruits would consider coming to Virginia Tech if we provide our softball program with even better facilities. I also think our coaches have taken us about as far as we can go (this is not a slam on our coaches at all, they are awesome, I am trying to make a point), without better facilities, and more funding for recruiting, our program may not continue to grow. Look at the last several seasons, we get close to the WCWS but just seem to not be able to reach it. Maybe this is something that our athletic director, Whit Babcock should take into consideration. We are close, let's go further with either a campaign for softball facilities (stadium) or a grassroots fundraising campaign if needed. I will do all I can to help this project out!
