Yes, Pete needs a bigger budget, and VT Softball has done great considering where we sit in the spending ranks. In some cases, more money means better coaches, more stuff, better facilities, etc. In some cases it doesn’t. Case in point… Syracuse outspends us. More on coaching? I doubt it. More on facilities? If so, they’re seriously overpaying for that 💩hole. What could it be? My guess is that scholarship dollars are part of these figures, as they should be. But it creates a misleading perspective. I am 100% sure that VT and Syracuse both funded exactly 12 scholarship equivalents. The expense of (private) Syracuse far exceeds the average price of a VT scholarship. Syracuse is a fine education… not better than ours, but equivalent. Their softball athletes are NOT better than ours, nor did they pay less to go there than ours did. Their scholarships… for roughly 50% of the team merely cost more… and left more for their students to pay as well.
