USC only wants the Irish if they play at the beginning of the year

acting like they care about continuing the series. ND is a nation wide, coast to coast, Canadian to Mexican border brand. USC is not. You may think differently, but you'd think wrong. Nobody in the Southeastern US cares about USC, and nobody in the Central or Midwest used to unless they made the Rose Bowl. In the East and NE, USC doesn't even mean Southern Cal, it means South Carolina. You can't say the same thing about ND.
USC is high on its own farts, and they always have been, which is a big reason why we no longer have the PAC-12.

...they're already getting the short end of the stick with crap Big Ten matchups, and now USC wants to get rid of a huge game (and one that couldn't air on Fox, as it'd be 9am in LA for Big Noon)

particularly the bigger brand names. Why would anyone want to schedule a competitive OOC game in the middle of the season.
Playing ND has even become much less a big deal for most ACC schools now that it is "been there, done that".
ND will certainly survive and maybe even often thrive as an independent but their hold on the national conscience is lessening.

with the possible exception of clemson- my point being like USC , those schools dont want to play a big OOC opponent in the middle of a conference grind.

If Auburn, in the tough SEC and a brand new, never played before ND opponent can do it, USC can do it to preserve a 100 year old rivalry...without whining.
I think the real reason is that ND has beaten USC in 7 of the last 8 and 10 of the last 12 games.
Lincoln Riley is tired of losing to ND and wants a cupcake instead.

First, USC whined about playing in the "cold" in South Bend in November.
So, ND accomodated USC by moving its home games in the series to October.
Now, USC whines about "travel" and "conference grind" and expects ND to once again accomodate USC.
(ND didn't tell USC to kill the Pac 12 and join a mostly Great Lakes conference. ND hasn't changed anything)
Number of USC whines and demanded schedule changes in the series = 2
Number of ND whines and demanded schedule changes in the series=0
Pull the plug. Cancel the series. Life goes on. ND can find another opponent.
Schedule more SEC opponents. The less Big Ten, the better.

the sense in the world. You're talking a team with a conference schedule to work around vs a team that has all the scheduling flexibility in the world. I like ND, but the cutting off the Irish nose to spite its face thing is hilarious to me.

USC has been in a conference for 80 years and never had an issue with scheduling ND later in the season.
GT and UGA have never had a problem scheduling their game. FSU and UF haven't. LOU and UK haven't. USCe and Clemson have never had a problem. VT and UVA never did when they weren't in the same conference which has only been for the last 20 years.
The SEC has never had a problem with its teams scheduling FCS cupcakes in late November.
It only becomes a problem when a school wants to get out of the series.

to match the rest of the conference. It's not just USC's schedule. Sure, the Pac 12 worked around it. They're also no longer a real conference.

If ND looks "bad" to some, that is just their problem.
