The P2 line is going to drawn somewhere. And we may or may not be on the right side of things when it happens. Seems like Berlin in 1961.
Pardon the comparison. Yeah, I know this P2 drama doesn't compare to human rights in Germany. But it has that feel of "I can see this coming; which side will I be on when the divide becomes permanent?"
And even if we "end up on the right side"; I will mourn for those who didn't make it. I think there is a lot of quality programs in the country (in the Big XII for instance) that just look like they will be left behind. A school like Kansas State comes to mind. Been very good in football for several decades now. And they are an after thought apparently. Meanwhile, there will be teams that make the cut which I cannot even remember playing in a game of national importance during my lifetime.
Anyway, we might sneak in, or maybe not. But it's just a sad state of affairs either way for the sport as a whole.

You had a maybe once in a lifetime storyline and some polarizing characters that came together to create a must see week of events. Clark, the whole LSU drama with Reese (the villain), Gino and UConn (the once unbeatable icons), Staley who is very polarizing with her undefeated team. All that together created interest. Did that get people interested in women's ball or were the simply interested in that story.
Can anything close to that be maintained? Doesn't seem likely as ABC/ESPN has been trying to get audiences to watch the WNBA for a couple decades and they get fewer viewers for Championship games than watch a Wed night MAC football game in Oct. Clark will likely kick that up a bit, but how long will the bump last and will the NCAAWBB bump be sustained without Clark and Reese.
I also wonder about the headlines stating that the women's final outdrew the men's final. I seem to recall initial headlines that the playoff game on streaming was a huge success, when a few days later when all the data was in, it was determined it was a colossal failure.

coming is an indicator, I think it last. The NBA was sometimes on tape delay before Magic and Bird showed up. I know it’s a bold prediction, but think this might be that moment. Someone posted that Women’s final had 4 million more TV watchers than the Men. That’s a humongous paradigm shift. One reason I think is that in watching the games this year, is more young women were at the games, I always thought if they show up, they can turn the attendance around overnight. They did, now let’s see if they sustain the habit?

this stupidity is FA without contracts or governance. We actually had a player that quit the team a week before the season started so he could transfer. That can't happen in a league with contracts and rules, he would have been bound to his contract and if he failed to live up to it, he would be barred from signing with another team.

"IF" Tech doesn't get into the Power 2 and stays in the ACC or joins the #3 conference Big 12, Tech has history on its side when it comes to not giving up on a dream. It took 50 years to get into the ACC.
The Big 10 and SEC would be fools if they don't add a school with a football fan base that dominates a state with 8.7 million people.

played, these schools are the P5 schools not really being a lock for P2 that are in the Top 25 all time in winning percentage (again, 1,000 games min.)
Clemson is too (but a P2 lock), and so is Appalachian State and Miami (OH) (but neither in P5).

Miami (FL) ranks only #69 among all schools (FBS and non-FBS) while Florida State does not appear within the top 100 on that list.
Interesting that WVU and W&J are tied in overall wins. W&J is located between Morgantown and Pittsburgh. The two schools are ancient rivals and, in fact, there is a reference to W&J in the WVU fight song.

Any assessment of teams should be limited to 25 year increments.
All the focus on the past is not relevant. It was before any current players were born, when most schools were in a different conference, and when rules were different for money and scholarship limits and transfers.
It’s the same when people talk about how VT has not won a team national title. If we only look from 1975 to now, or 2000 to now, then there would be a whole bunch of other schools just like VT who have not won.

You get a who's who of SEC also rans (South Carolina and Kentucky), Big Ten bottom dwellers (Purdue) and recent expansion schools (Rutgers and Maryland), and current P2 expansion competition for VT (UVA and NC State). That's what it takes to get a P2 invite!! We have no chance.

You ignore the four Ivys as well as NDSU (Go Bison - my Dad's alma mater) and three Division 3 programs, VT is #18.
If you sort by Winning Percentage, the Hokies are #46 overall and #19 for the P5 schools.
When looking at the top 75 using total wins, there are 11 SEC (of 16) and 13 BIG schools (of 18). This includes the latest expansion with TX, OK, USC, UCLA, OR and WA.
My favorite though - Miami (of Ohio) is #42 compared with Miami FL at #69.
