So could the new arena at Potomac Yards, owned by Monumental Sports and
Entertainment, and adjacent to the VT Innovation campus, be a big positive if VT needs to find a new Conference home? Ted Leonis said he Loves Georgetown (His alma mater), but he also loves VT and George Mason. My apologies if this has been previously discussed.

I think it would be great if there was a tournament with four Virginia teams from different conferences. It would be great to have games with teams that rarely play each other.

That Capital one should have pushed for in the past is an annual doubleheader with uVa and VT alternating games vs UMD and WVU. Easy sellout and lots of DMV love if they somehow could make that an annual tradition.

With the old Big 5. As much as I like your idea it won't happen....it is so much about maxing out tv revs, and we be lucky to get uva and vt to give one game to any format , much less 2 or 3. The made for tv events in all the beach locales have cannibalized the more geographic tournaments.

that the two primary tenants will be an NBA franchise and an NHL franchise and that a bloc of dates to host an in season tourney or any kind of multi day event may not be feasible? The Cap One Arena located in the middle of Beirut-West COULD be feasible. Just wear your vest, bring your concealed carry and keep your hand on your wallet.

This wouldn’t be until 2028 at the earliest.
The WNBA team isn’t moving.
Throw in creative scheduling /marketing and you could get some downstate fans coming to a pro game while in town.

currently host in season tourneys like what you are suggesting? Of those how many are the home to two separate pro franchises? A special one night event with 4 teams might be workable but, a multi-day tourney event has some fairly complicated logistics issues I would imagine and I am less optimistic than you that they can be worked out.

could not answer the question asked you could have just said so instead of deflecting with an irrelevant example. Hosting a third team for single night games is not the same as hosting a multi-team, multi-day event.

The schedule has gaps in it now. There is, for example one two-day Monster Jam truck event (which I’m sure requires considerable set up and take down time). There is also another multi day gap that doesn’t have anything scheduled.

I asked you if you knew of any other pro arena hosting in season tourneys and the subsequent question was whether any of those arena were home to two pro franchises. Maybe I missed that answer. While a two day Monster Truck event does require set up and take down time the logistics I refer to are matching the schedules of multiple college teams to schedules of the pro teams. There will likely be gaps in an arena schedule and event promoters with enough flexibility and free schedules to make it work. I doubt the same flexibility is available in college basketball program's schedules to await the release of NBA and NHL schedules and then plug in nor do I believe the primary tenant pro franchises are likely to be flexible in moving their schedules. Maybe your idea will prove workable but, I could not(off the top of my head) come up with places where it has been done previously and that led to the questions I previously asked you and repeated in this post.

MSG hosted the 2K Empire Classic with 4 teams between November 21 and 23, 2019. At the time, the arena was (and remains) the home of the Knicks (NBA), Rangers (NHL), and St. John’s MBB (NCAA). I’m sure there are other examples if you’d care to investigate further (I don’t).

you found 1 that is a long running special event that was originally founded as the 2K, morphed into the Coaches vs Cancer etc. and is an ESPN event. The point being it is a unique made for TV and charity event that because of its reach and partners gets concessions. You will not find many, if any, like it and with the landscape already stocked full of pre, early and in season tourneys putting another at National Landing may not be nearly as easy or attractive as you think. We will just have to agree to disagree.

for a weekend tournament. The alumni association could even get a handful of security guards to watch the lots after everyone is packed up. This could be a real event and a chance to reconnect with college friends from other parts of the state and region.
