I’m not totally sure what you all think the major issue is. If it’s sign stealing, that is not illegal and every school in the Big10 does it. If it’s a staffer that recorded the signs electronically, that is not legal and the only time that has happened was at Baylor and the staff member hit a half game. Why would you fire a coach that there’s no evidence provided that he knew of the issue before the due process takes its course. The suspension wasn’t because anything was proven, it was a clause for sportsmanship that allows the commissioner 2 games. He pushed the competition council to vote for 3 games with the possibility for more.

We don't know, beyond some few snippets, what evidence is in the hands of The NCAA. dayooper, you say there is no evidence that JH knew what was going on. How could you possibly know that. There are dozens (at least) of people who were involved in this escapade. Many will have their opportunity to talk to the investigators, and to eventually speak publicly, if they so wish. I am trying hard to reserve judgement about this. I admit to harboring an impulse toward "guilty." Some of the difficulty in discussing this thing is keeping both sides focusing on the same subject. M supporters say this is about "sign stealing." M detractors talk about "in-person scouting." Steve Deace says it's about the definition of "scout." The recent suspension has elicited calls for "due process" but nothing about innocence. Let's all be courteous to the opposing voices and recognize that we know very little about the truth.

The Big10 suspended Harbaugh not because he knew (they admit as much in their suspension announcement), but they were punishing the University in such a way that it “wouldn’t harm” the student athlete. They are pursuing punishment without due process based on he said/she said and mob mentality. Whomever leaked this did so with intent to tarnish Michigan and Harbaugh. As far as saying we don’t have any evidence that he didn’t know, I can agree with that. Then again, how can we say he did know without any evidence and continue to hammer him in the media for being a cheater and calling this the biggest scandal ever in college football (not your words, but several ESPN opinion makers words).

Due process in courts of law is an essential right. The suspension of JH was not a court proceeding. It was, despite the world-wide hue and cry, a summary punishment by The Commissioner for a violation of the sportsmanship rules. The B1G is no more or less than an amateur sports league and it enforces rules under the almost absolute discretion of The Commissioner. The due process is in the commissioner's back pocket.

The Big10 has all the right to do so, even if they don’t have a clear picture doesn’t make it right. The fact that they did it and how they did it (issued the suspension while Michigan was in flight to PSU and leaked it to Thamel and ESPN 30 minutes before they told Michigan) was for effect. They want Michigan to lose so they won’t be in the playoffs. It’s in poor faith that the University suspended the coach when they never interviewed the coach (or any coaches) and players on the matter. The barred Harbaugh from the meeting that the Big10 had with Michigan officials on Nov 3rd. If Harbaugh is guilty, he’s guilty and he should take whatever punishment he’s entitled to. Big10 coaches remanded he was to be indefinitely suspended until the NCAA is finished with their investigation. That’s not fitting for what they are saying he did.

The need for evidence, due process, interviews, etc. simply aren't specified in the Big Ten rules. Paraphrasing, they say that when The Commissioner determines that an infraction has occurred he can take punitive action. It really is that vague. It appears that Petitti was able to view evidence that The NCAA has gathered and took action based on that. If JH/Michigan knew he was out of bounds the would have followed through with their suit.

do really bad stuff, get caught, and turn it into something virtuous. I'm sure college campuses outside Ann Arbor will be organizing pro-Harbaugh rallies soon enough, followed by his filing to run for Commander-in-Chief.

For autism. He’s would be on the low end and he’s very functional, but how he interacts with people, especially those he doesn’t know leads me to think that. BTW - I’m a teacher and coach in a large, affluent suburban school that is well known for teaching autistic children. I have taught and coached many in my time.
