Would the ACC take Michigan?
Something is going on with Michigan and the Big Ten Conference. Michigan media has Michigan upset with Commissioner Petitti. I guess this is over the Harbaugh scandal with Signals and Signs. I'm not sure the ACC would take them, but Notre Dame would probably push for it.
They'll probably calm down, but it's interesting.

But yes they would have to be furious with the B1G to leave their payout. I do think an add like that would allow the ACC too up the payout with forcing ESPN. And I don't think ESPN would gripe.

Michigan would rival SMU or have more actually too handle themselves. They can go where they want,
As Dayooper suggests, some are looking as SEC. Why subject themselves to a brutal SEC schedule when they don't have to in the ACC if their addition bumps the ACC ESPN numbers. They would be able to run through the ACC with challenges only with Florida schools, Clemson, and other ACC having good years. SEC would be brutal.

ACC is in states that the SEC isn't in, California, PA, NC, and VA. As for states the ACC is in that the Big10 isn't in, those are Texas, FL, GA, SC, NC, VA.
The additions of SMU and Cal/Stan really opened up states for the ACC to now be able to recruit better in.

And if we ever end up with Tulane, Louisiana is a fertile recruiting state also. I had wanted Cincinnati due to proximity and ACC Network subscribers, but Ohio is a good recruiting state too. We missed out on that one.

But to answer your question, ACC would be certifiably insane to not take Michigan.

To think they wouldn’t is silly as heck. Not that it’s even a remote possibility.

Historical,
Listen, look Mich never been a team player in the Big 10, only for Mich. Now you have 13 Presidents directing the commission to do something.
So anywhere Mich goes there will be trouble GUARANTEE IT

Not that it would happen, but the ACC would soon learn the meaning of "Michigan Men, Leaders and Best".

They throw their weight around. But the whales are what create the revenue gap for the SEC and B1G vs ACC. Florida State likes to act like a whale, Michigan, Ohio State, and Texas are whales.

It’s gonna be interesting with Texass in the SEC.

Those people always consider themselves to be #1 and everyone getting what Texass wants them to have.
Bama, LSU, Georgia et. al. will not appreciate that.
And if Texass tries to throw their weight around, aTm will just say, "I told you so."

PSU unhappy with the B1X, with rumors about them wanting to leave too. What happened? Nothing. The exact same thing will happen with Meechigan. They aren't going anywhere.

And this Harbaugh thing is hyper-trivial compared to leaving the B1G
after a hundred and some years. They'd fire Harbaugh first before going to the ACC.
Yep. Follow the money. Or I guess we should say, stay with the money.
Nonstarter.

was known as the Big Nine) in 1907 because Michigan didn't adhere to the league rules at the time. Michigan remained an independent until it rejoined the conference for the 1917-18 season. I know it has been over 100 years since that happened and the smart money says that Michigan should remain in the Big Ten. I do find it interesting that Michigan is the only member (as far as I know) to be kicked out of the Big Ten and now people are talking about the possibility of Michigan choosing to leave the conference because it believes the conference didn't follow its own rules when punishing Harbaugh.

No P2+ team is going to burn their golden ticket to financial security to join a P2(minus) conference. Will never happen.

Between it’s donors (who are all up in arms over this) and it’s own funds, they can handle whatever comes their way.
(In response to this post by EDGEMAN)
Maybe we should start a clandestine agitation operation to get the Big Blue
donors and ultras all fired up, pitting the B1G and UM against one another.
Hey! It's worth a shot. 😆

It absolutely must have a Watergate or James Bond-villain vibe.
Otherwise, it would be too boring.

If that happened, the ACC would transform. And other would come with them. ESPN would up the ante.
It's a pipe dream, but something to fantasize about. They wouldn't have to do summer camps in Florida anymore. There would be a benefit for them to have access to the South. I'd say Southeast, but we are in Texas now too.
ESPN would have to address the change in one of the look ins, and this addition would be one they would do. But not happening.

Not here to debate sign stealing, but the lack of due process and suspension of their coach 20 hours (while they were in the air) before one of the biggest games is very unprofessional. They suspend the head coach when they have no evidence that he knew what was going on. The Big10 informed the university 30 minutes after ESPN “broke” the news.

We'd like to know what is going on. No one thinks Michigan will change conferences, but the ACC would love the opportunity to have discussions with Michigan. But can the Harbaugh situation be cleared up.
We are pretty far from what's going on.

Everybody in the Big10 steals signs. Illinois shared their spreadsheet of Michigans signs with OSU and Purdue (OSU had their own). Purdue may have sent Michigans signs to TCU last year. The issue is that a low level staffer is accused of being at opposing recording with an electronic device (which is against the rules) and not a 3rd party (which is not against the rules).
If the Big10 had let this take its own course and let it all play out like it should have, then this wouldn’t be an issue. Since mob mentality took effect and the Big10 did not let due process take ahold, so it all became personal. The slight of how the suspension was given out and the timing of it are very unprofessional and lead the personal nature of the issue.

disagree here with respect most of the time.
BTW, I am like HOO86, I really don’t know the details, and it seems the B1G doesn’t either 🤣. I get it, that’s probably not funny to you. Keep posting though, we love the diversity of perspectives and information here.

The Big10 and a couple of schools decided to air their dirty laundry publicly by feeding certain reporters their side of the story so they can get out in front before Michigan could reply. Michigan has in the past just rolled over (Stretchgate, Burgergate) and self imposed their own punishments. The Big10 wanted 2 games and Michigan said no. The President and regents are very aware of how the other schools have treated them and it will take some healing before they trust again.
Do I think they will move, probably not, but the ball is already rolling on looking at ways of leaving legally. Losing Michigan would severely hurt the Big10. Michigan and OSU are consistently top 5 in viewership and to lose them would be a blow to the TV package they negotiated.

And let the Big 12 take them. My confidence is low with Jim Phillips.
But with Michigan's academic standing they would probably prefer ACC. We now have Stanford. It would motivate Notre Dame to stay. But like you said they aren't close to actually leaving.
