SEC ACC merger dream
This is probably a dream but in my opinion a merger of the SEC and the ACC would cement both leagues as the most powerful conference in the country and negate anything the Big Ten tries to do.

It would reduce the SEC's per school payout, diminish their advantage
and water down their league. Why would they do that? They've won.

This would provide them an opportunity to be up and down the entire east coast... Stay contiguous... Keep the Big 10 out of the South... And add major TV markets that they are not currently in. It would also provide ESPN protection on their investment in the ACC against the Big ten raid. I don't think it's that far fetched.

They don't want that. They WANT to only be in the South.
Ask anyone who's a fan of any SEC school. There is zero interest in watering down what makes the SEC special and destroying its identity. Since it's already bringing it a boatload of cash, there is no reason to do that anyway. The SEC will never, ever expand north of Virginia. I would bet enormous sums of money on that. The obvious exception would be if Notre Dame for some insane reason came knocking.. but even then, there would be significant pushback and I couldn't see it happening.

of being scared but, it is a question of totally controlling their footprint and denying another league in-state carriage rates. The SEC dominates on the field and that appears unlikely to change, at least in the short term. However, now that all but a select few schools that COULD yield a revenue bump are off the table the focus of expansion shifts more toward control and maintaining and/or enhancing a conference's competitive power base.

Nor does the SEC want both Virginia & Virginia Tech. Only one. Vandy and the two Mississippi schools are original SEC formation members going back to 1936. The Alabama schools enjoy playing Vandy and the Mississippi schools. What the Alabama schools want is the direction the SEC takes. The ACC has that with those Tobacco Road schools.
I have seen a lot about the SEC shedding members on here, I think the first sign of that would be a makeshift remedy of unequal sharing of conference revenue. That first step has never even been hinted at being taken by the SEC front office.

Can't say that only expansion with teams that increase objective $$$ value are considered (no subjective considerations) and then ignore the anchors that drain $$$ for similar subjective reasons.

Not sure the SEC wants Wake or the three north of the Mason-Dixon Line schools. Duke might be a stretch too.

give ACC members / leadership a say and a landing spot. B1G could take BC/Cuse/Pitt/Duke and 2 of VT/uva/UNC/NCSU, SEC gets the other 8, ND is told pound sand unless they are ready to join as a full member. i know people will laugh at SEC taking Wake Forest, but if that's the price to get Clemson, FSU and Miami, they'll pay it.

Why would the Sec want Miami, they ve done nothing of significance in the Acc. They don't have a large following. Are they ever coming back, when they were really good it was because of speed. They lost that advantage decades ago.

I don’t understand this whole FSU/Clemson to the SEC when ESPN/Disney/ABC already owns and pays for both the SEC and ACC.
ACC and SEC have the same landlord in the same building, how does FSU/anyone moving next door make a difference?
