Cal and Stanford could join for football only
The ACC only plays 8 conference games, so that's only 3 to 4 away games they would have to play on the East Coast every season. That seems very doable. ACC teams get a bump in money from the ACC Network in California and a little extra being chipped in by ESPN to make it financially viable.

ND plays 5 ACC schools a year on avg, now with Stanford, the number would be six?? or ND elects to drop one??

Just spectulating here but I assume that Stanford will be in line to play ND as part of their 5-game per year deal with ND approximately every 3 years. So every third year their game against Stanford will count as one of the 5 ACC games, and the other 2 out of 3 years the Stanford game won't count as one of the 5 ACC games. This is assuming ND chooses to keep playing Stanford every year.

Cause I wonder what Clemson in FSU would vote.

FSU would need 3 other schools to vote with them to block it. ND does get a vote.

I have a feeling Tech would vote "yes" because....
our president grew up in the S.F. area and got all 3 of his degrees from Cal. I would personally vote "NO". They don't add any significant value to the ACC and adding them is like a dirt poor family bringing in 4 more relatives when they can't even take care of themselves.

However, money is the driving the issue. And many of the small teams are getting left in the dust.

the most part. The conference chaos (Metro, Independent, Big East, ACC) for the last 30+ years for VT has been just ridiculous. I think we just wanted stability and a place at the table. We thought we had that with the ACC. Who knows going forward...

ACC is okay on that area. Plus, only two teams.

Don’t see them getting the $ to compete anytime soon. Still, an FB only arrangement with the ACC would be a real lifeline to them.

Game/exposure every year.

I could see the Big 10 putting their foot down and saying no more scheduling games with ND. If you want to still play games in California for recruiting purposes, this may be your best option.

their networks (Fox or NBC) every single week now. I know the ND home games aren't Big Ten property, but it is still in their best interest, and will be a great lead in game to their primetime offering.

NBC announced that their plan is to cross market ND and the Big Ten games on NBC.
I think that ND's new NBC contract will have a 3 game Big Ten scheduling agreement attached to it.

about? Whether NBC gives them the number they want or they have to settle for even more money from the BIG or SEC, I doubt there is a whole lot of squirming going on.
