ACC-PAC Merger ?

Are all looking to leave the conference. Merging that with the ACC is not going to increase our finances. If anything it would decrease them. A few select games with select teams from the PAC however, could be appealing. But not a full merger

Keeping Notre Dame happy in the ACC is a huge goal. Notre Dame has historical rivalries with Cal and Stanford, not to mention that they schedule some of those other schools regularly in football.
Allowing ND to schedule rivals BC, Miami, Cal, Stanford, Arizona State, Oregon, Washington, etc regularly on ESPN (not just NBC) is kind of a big ratings grab. ND’s relationship with the ACC is as important as anything we have.

ND showed its hand when they worked with the SEC to expand the playoff.
They want a permanent avenue to the CFP that eliminates that possibility of a champions-only tournament. And they got it with the CFP-12. The ACC had hoped up till that time that ND might join in the future. But that's out the window now.
So I don't think we should worry about keeping Notre Dame happy, nor should we intentionally piss them off. Just play on.

This should have happened before UCS and UCLA left. Now both leagues are back tracking to save the conference.

All articles do not referenced any VT. This is worrisome .
The following are mentioned for conference realignment:
Fl state
Clemsom
Unc
Miami
UVa why why why where is the beef !
I think this is a gut punch for VT.

Those seem to be the top 5 in most articles...
that I've read over the past 3 or 4 months. Every once in awhile I'll see Tech and NC State mentioned, but half of them have Tech going to the Big 12 probably because they are written by Big 12 homers. I think UVA is mentioned mostly because they are close to UNC and because of their AAU membership. I see Louisville and Duke mentioned even less than Tech and NC State. I've never seen Pitt, Syracuse, Wake and BC mentioned if that makes any of us feel better.

made up crap to get clicks. Made up by people who have no understanding of anything except how to get people to click their crap.

With Oregon and Washington going to the BIG and the Arizona schools going to the Big-12, that leaves Stanford, Cal, Oregon State, Washington State and Utah. Those brands do not bring enough to the table to increase the value of the conference as a whole.

It certainly would not work without them.
Even with those two (and maybe Cal, Stanford, Utah and one of ASU/Arizona) I can't see ESPN offering enough to keep all the current ACC members at their existing payout, AND pay the incoming PAC schools enough. OSU and WSU are non-starters.
Assuming those six schools came aboard, how much additional revenue could ESPN hope to generate just from adding the ACC Network in the new states?
I still think, though, that an ACC-PAC merger would only work financially with the top 16 brands from both conferences combined. Purge some of the poor TV draws from each and it's probably viable.

to kick out? What if they decided only the top 12 teams go? It's a slippery slope when you talk about a BC, Wake, or any other team being let go.

I'm just saying that the only way an ACC / Pac 12 merger *might* work financially is IF you could combine the top brands from each into a 16-team conference. The chances of that happening are slim and none.

They can throw around tens of millions just like they could a few years ago. ESPN wanted no parts of the PAC during their recent media negotiations and have split with FOX for the Big-12.
I think the BIG will end up adding Oregon and Washington at a reduced payout because, if they had the finances to ass them earlier, they would have. I think with the PAC falling apart, they have to add them now as they can’t leave UCLA and USC on an island by themselves.

football schools. That division/conference would have national respect to boost recruiting. Add Pac to ACCN for additional revenue. Would just relegate half the ACC/Pac to an inferior division/conference but that would be the sacrifice. Another option would be a rotating pod system with FSU, Miami, Clemson, Oregon, and Washington always together.
I know, will never happen.

if the PAC was worth enough to pay all the schools and all the ACC schools more money than they are getting now, then ESPN would have offered the PAC enough that they wouldn't be being without a deal and being raided by the Bigs.
Only way a merger works is if ESPN decides that creating a corporate merger where it is 2 conferences under a single corporate deal (the idea of a bi-coastal conference is beyond stupid as the Bigs are going to soon find out). Only way the ACC would sign up for it is if it meant increasing their revenue per team, but since no one is offering the PAC more than $20mil per team, that is obviously not gonna happen.
Just more stupid click bait by people who can't do math.

The odds of that happening are between slim and none, and slim just left town.
