Looks like ND has out negotiated SEC & B1G again!! Weak SOS & no Conf Champ
Game to risk a loss in, which means rest up your players before the playoff, and get a home game for the first round. They did all this after losing a home game to Northern Illinois, but who cares it’s Notre Dame, so TV ratings will be good. In the meantime, the SEC beats each other up, to some degree the B1G too.
Seriously, Notre Dame comes out the playoff meeting setting up the rules and sells they are the victim again, but some of us kept saying nooo, they got the best deal by far. I admit, I showed my frustration over it on the board, but it was like it never happened. However, the question is how do they keep pulling the wool over the SEC and B1G’s eyes!?!?!? I know what TerryD would likely say, “we are playing chess, while the SEC and B1G are playing checkers!” In other words, “we are just smarter than they are, brains usually beats money.” Maybe he’s right, but how do the SEC and B1G literally get played again by Notre Dame? How come like some of us here, they couldn’t see this coming?

play in a conference championship. So, I don't see the ND issue as much of a big deal. And I doubt the SEC or B1G are concerned as well.

they are saying that for a reason.
PS I think we are headed to 16 like McElroy predicted, with no buys, but no Conference Championship either. Could be as early as 2026.

SEC(afc). Vs. BIG(nfc)
As soon as acc and Big 12 lose more teams and ND gets squeezed by networks wanting them in a conference of 24. With another conf 24. Prob each four divisions of six.

So no ND? Well in above. Finally they will have to enter or stay independent. Being independent will not get you in playoffs. Why? SEC vs BIG champ is the National champ. Of course ND will have say whether they playing for title or not. If they done do be it. They can still have a season. If they want in one of the teams above will not be in final 48. TV networks will finally say ND in pays more.
My scenario may have final diff teams. Hell VT might get left out. Wvu might. But if u look at above some major rivalries stay and sell. Far fetched? Possibly, but SEC and BIG will eventually own college athletics. Or tv networks

I'm not sure 48 is the magic number. If it is, some current P2 schools should be relegated to make room for schools on this list.

Notre Dame will always be given a pass. It is what it is. I remember Cav once saying he wished that nobody would schedule them in anything. They have way too much power as an individual institution that is based on past glories.

I’m happy that there is some downside to that. Good for ND that they can find a way around it. We need more of that.

Thus, I will let you have that one, again kudos to ND for incredible negotiating skills.

neither was Texas' schedule that tough or many others. A whole lot of disappointing seasons throughout the country. ND's is weaker than most. FSU being a disaster doesn't help. USC also underperformed. UL was ranked when they played them.

3 of their conference wins are against the worst 3 teams in the conference. They have beaten nobody. Thats no better than ND.

They need to encourage Notre Dame to schedule more Top 25 teams, and less below 25 so they or anybody else don’t cup cake in. They are encouraging teams to play the weakest regular season schedule possible. That must change!

FSU is awful. USC is also down. Assuming TU beats aTm, they’ll share their best win with ND.

Notre dame has the number 1 offense in terms of points per play.
1. ND - .609
2. Miami - .596
3. OSU - .593
4. Boise - .572
5. Tulane - .568
ND also has the number 1 defense in PPP allowed
1. ND - .173
2. OSU - .174
3. Texas - .185
4. Ole Miss - .203
5. Tennessee - .205
Notre Dame now has the best point differential in FBS (+301)

not like those rankings are the product of a solid schedule either. Doesn't really matter though as ND will have the chance to make or torpedo their case with the remaining games, a task they really haven't been up to for the last 30 years or so. We will see if this year is any different.

They will agree to anything that makes the pot of money bigger.

The powers that be want ND. They don't care if its an independent.
That is for fans of other teams to ***** about, not the networks and school presidents.
There will always be an exception made for ND, even in a P2 world.

a hot knife through butter.
Having ND as a partial member is a feather in the ACC's cap, as their football team could schedule anyone they want. frankly, I don't understand why some are trashing ND, they should want them to succeed, make money, and get in the playoffs every year.
That being said, the recent Army game was a rare time I wanted ND to lose.

Also, ND provides the available dates, its the ACC who provides the particular opponents

get in, and ND gets all the benefits I described, then it will be interesting to watch going forward. Either way, ND runs circles around the SEC & B1G when negotiating. I have to give them that.

VT needs a heavy rotation of nearby G5 teams that give us extra home games and easy fan travel, ODU, Liberty, ECU, charlotte, Marshall, etc., and one FCS home game every year. Maybe include a B12 team home and away, especially WVU. Our best chance is to go undefeated ooc. 2026 looks ok to me, VMI, ODU, JMU, and at Maryland.

have the luxury or the eyeballs to schedule a soft schedule. They need to double down on really good non conference matchups, and spread them out through the year, not just one tough one before conference play starts.
If you want the national eyeballs, schedule nationally, and with schools that people will want to watch. Scheduling Maryland and Rutgers year after year as your tough OOC will not cut it. The same goes for every single B12 team.

at large bid this year it appears. The landscape will reward those that beat the tough teams, especially on the road. From where I'm sitting, if you can not do that, then you shouldn't be in the playoffs. I'm not talking VT here, I'm talking more broadly. The ACC and B12 do not have the luxury of scheduling an easy OOC schedule like the SEC does.
Clemson may get an at large this year because they will be playing a tough South Carolina team, not because they scheduled the Citadel.
