I wonder what would happen if Notre Dame joined the ACC..
And asserted its media dominance to control the conference. They could technically experiment because they won’t be bound by the grant of rights if they negotiated tough. If it works great, if not go to another conference. If they go to the BIG10, their chances at a conference title and CFP go down. They would probably be in the top 5 but rarely number one. If they move to the SEC, their chances are even slimmer to be in the top 5-8. Their chances at a conference title and CFP invite is enough to say no. But in the ACC they will always be in the top 3. Maybe only second to Clemson. They will mostly likely see the conference championship game and a CFP invite every year. Notre Dame could come in and the ACC could add Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Utah and maybe take Cincinnati or BYU. Raid the BIG12. Open up the media contract with some strength. The PAC12 leftovers would be happy because they have access to a network. ACC members would be happy to not get picked apart. The stronger members would probably push for a deal that distributes money according to the final standing. And Notre Dame can have some control and flexibility to bail if it doesn’t work. It’s possible the ACC could negotiate a deal close to the BIG10. They don’t have to have more money than the BIG10, just close enough to be no. 2b instead of a distant no. 3. Force a 3 conference situation instead of 2. Just a thought.

What makes you think they’d be in the ACC Champ game every year? I’d say every other at best and probably less than that. Remember when the ACC thought F$U and Miami were going to battle it out in the ACCCG every year? To date that hasn’t happened. I’m not so sure ND would be all that hard to compete with to be honest. We’ve proven we can.

The subject of giving more money to certain schools to keep them in the ACC (because the SEC and B1G made overtures) would ultimately fail. Can you imagine VT accepting an ACC where Clemson, FSU, UNC and uva get more revenue? I would rather have them leave the conference than deal with that.

If you equalize distributions, that means the more valuable entity is subsidizing the less valuable entity. That's a simple fact, and when this occurs the more valuable entities will leave and play ball somewhere else where they don't give away as much.
Why should VT make as much as FSU, Clemson, or UNC if those other teams are driving better ratings and contributing more? Why should Wake make as much as VT? It doesn't need to be 1 to 1, but certainly a team could keep 50% of their ratings value they generate (formulaically), and the other 50% is for the pool.

To keep it competitive, you institute Salary Caps, Roster Limits, Trade Deadlines. Basically, you don't let a team runaway by OUTSPENDING you into infinity... but they can out earn you.

their way out of the GoR? what ACC school is going to allow that? And if it did happen, wouldn't that open a window for other schools to now try abd get out of it?
There are other sports in the ACC are under it, why wouldn't they be for football?
And why would you give ND the flexiiblity to bail?
No way any other ACC school votes for this and there is no way we could negotiate a deal close to the Big 10 (but i am not sure what you mean by "close")
just adding teams does not make us more desirable for TV. you have to add the right teams and there are few of them left. teams that will actually increase your revenue enough for every member to benefit. we already have 3 of those teams in our confernce

What if NBC/Peacock went all in and bought out the ACC contract and network
and put ND in whether they like it or not. That is streaming and OTT.

Forgoing independence in the name of money is a tough pill for them to swallow. They now have even more leverage with NBC. I don’t see how ND couldn’t get the same as the per team payout of any other conference. I realize NBC gets zero away games (unlike a rights holder who would inherently get a lot of away games, too, via conference play) and does not include basketball but still…

I’ve really been wondering what NBC does. How much do they value their partnership with ND. If they come through with $50M per year and ND gets an additional payout from the ACC for all other sports that keeps them in the neighborhood of the B1G while keeping independence then…. A 10 win ND isn’t getting shut out of any playoff.
