Basically, on-field performance is a proxy for the actual revenue driver.
In reality it's all about eyeballs. If your team stinks it up year after year but still draws big TV ratings, that's okay with ESPN. In theory your three criteria drive higher ratings. I'm sure the ACC private schools would never vote for a ratings-based distribution model so on-field performance is the best we can do for now.
