Frankly not sure if VT would have been invited to that either... The Big East was as good as we could get at the time, and we made the most of that opportunity. We started off strong in the ACC, then gradually sank to their level of football...mediocrity. F$U won one, then Clemson won a few to carry the ACC banner. Basically the ACC seems to be run by the Tobacco Road mafia, and that's why they didn't make Miami one of our yearly games. They want keep VT from gaining prominence again, especially before the conference implodes.
