But you can't say that VT's home schedule is equal to its away schedule

in the scenario I presented in an earlier post. If VT ended up being relegated at the end of the season, then you would be okay with the fact that you didn't have an opportunity to see VT play the away opponents at home before being relegated? Even if VT didn't get relegated, there is no guarantee that VT would play this year's away schedule at home next season. It is possible that VT could end up playing some of those same opponents away again next season for various reasons. Likewise, if VT is relegated and then promoted the following year, there is no guarantee that VT would play any of those away opponents at home.

This issue is why a every European league has their schedule structured so they play every other team in the league home and away at least 1 time and maybe even twice if the league is small enough. While the Scottish Premier League (SPL) does things slightly different. The SPL has each team play the other teams in the league 3 times for 33 games. While the remaining 5 games are determined after the 12 team league is divided up into 2 groups of 6. I'm not sure how the league determines who the home team is for each of the 5 remaining games. As far as I can tell, it is the only European league to use this format.
