I'm not over looking it. But when you play a legit FULL schedule

of 12 elite teams--rather than 4 elite teams, 4 sub par teams, and 4 cupcakes--it evens itself out.

The only thing where this might be an issue is if there are two dominate teams in the East (let's say Alabama and Georgia). And the winner is the East champion to play in the national championship game against the West champion. That might be an issue. But it is hardly a deal breaker. And the equation would be reversed the following year since obviously neither would be getting relegated.
