Recent post about the ACC not getting teams in the big dance.

got me thinking. So I pulled up a google map of the US and mentally places the Big 2 conference footprints on it. What stood out to me is the Big and SEC own or have a presence in every place east of or on the west side of the Mississippi excepting VA/NC and New England. I think most would agree that Boston has proved it is not worth pursuing so the only thing the ACC has is VA/NC and are in the fight for SC and Fla. And if we want to be honest, NOVA (MD/PSU) and Virginia beyond the NRV(Tenn) are already under the influence of the Big 2. That really leaves only Richmond/757, the Triangle, Greensboro/WS and Charlotte. Forgetting all things past, who is achieving, underachieving and overachieving. Forget it is about competitive college football and thinking like an advertising person rather than a school/football fan. Think like the advertising source or money thinks. It is market share and profit that drive the bus, What would you do? Forget the previous expansions where the idea that specific schools brought regional and local markets to the league. That is pretty much dead. It is all national now. It is all about the grouping of teams the advertisers want to market their product with. Not even the Big 2 leagues have the power, it is the biggest name teams. So thinking like that and looking at that one market of Richmond/757/Triangle/Charlotte how would you put that market area within your footprint? Factor in the initial horror by fans and banking on the belief they will come around to your only game in town. What would you do? What do you think the ACC could do to stop you?

How do you say dmv is big 10
Mercury 03/14/23 07:54 AM ET
Right now it’s about football, that’s where the 💵 is. SEC rivalry model
Stech 03/13/23 12:03 PM ET
Basketball is the next big expansion play. SEC and B1G

ACC not doing all it could to get WVU/Cinn was error.
HOO86 03/13/23 09:39 PM ET
If the ACC would just treat expansion and scheduling for 🏈, like 🏀, they
Stech 03/14/23 09:26 AM ET
Too Much Paid for the ACCN
WarHog38 03/13/23 11:10 PM ET
its all hindsight now
Mercury 03/14/23 09:33 AM ET
Brand-on-brand? How about market-on-market?
33laszlo99 03/13/23 08:25 PM ET
Agree on Greg sankey
HokieInTampaFL 03/13/23 09:43 PM ET
Where has Sankey Put on the Brakes?
WarHog38 03/14/23 12:10 AM ET
Why did Sankey feel a need for this? Is more to come?

Sankey is Trying Desperately to Take the Ethical High Road

If you listened to Big Ten de-facto realignment mouthpiece Greg Flugar,
Maroon Baboon 03/14/23 10:51 PM ET
Each of them actually is trying to prevent a lawsuit. Same with FSU.

Two things.
Maroon Baboon 03/17/23 01:32 AM ET
What does "aggressive" even mean in this current environment?
Maroon Baboon 03/14/23 01:09 AM ET
True on FSU & Clemson
WarHog38 03/14/23 01:41 AM ET
I don't think it's a rivalry model as much as it's just a passion model.
Maroon Baboon 03/13/23 02:18 PM ET
Now you are debating the chicken or the egg, let me go with the egg for now
Stech 03/13/23 04:34 PM ET
I think it has moved past football. This is now about conf branding
HokieAl 03/13/23 01:04 PM ET
B1G is certainly buying that, but not the SEC, the SEC draws #s on rivalry
Stech 03/13/23 01:39 PM ET
Uhhm Nike earns less from Oregon than other areas?
VTCALS72 03/13/23 02:59 PM ET
You are right it's not his income, but branding wise it is big!
Stech 03/13/23 03:56 PM ET
For Oregon it is a matter of location
HokieAl 03/13/23 02:12 PM ET
Location not as important than size and robustness for big 10
Mercury 03/16/23 05:36 PM ET
Conferences with the best football teams and rivalries have the best brand.
Stech 03/13/23 04:04 PM ET
UO could easily be taken by the BigXII.
Maroon Baboon 03/13/23 02:23 PM ET
ACC is screwed. Big money is already in control
HokieAl 03/13/23 10:58 AM ET
I am afraid so. The best and only path for all ACC teams not named
VTCALS72 03/13/23 11:02 AM ET
I still don't buy into the "Miami hype" that everyone seems to post here
EDGEMAN 03/13/23 03:50 PM ET
Miami is a great brand nonetheless
SpeakToDamien 03/13/23 05:24 PM ET
Miami still gets decent football TV ratings. That gives them some value.
