You are right it's not his income, but branding wise it is big!

I do know a little bit about sports branding having negotiated millions of dollars with some of the best known sports people/organizations on the planet. Back to the original point, he said it was more about the value of the brand of the school across all sports. If that is the case Stanford would be the most valued entity out there. No University has accomplished more than Stanford at the Athletic level. However, they are not going to make the most money. My point is that it's more about TV viewership for Football, the money maker. I love that Stanford is awesome in Golf and Academics, but that doesn't create TV money like Alabama or Ohio State do with football playoff teams. PS Now he is clarifying it's about branding for the Conference and not the team. In which I say branding of having the most successful football teams. However, the whole SEC is not winning National Championships, they have about 4 teams that do that, but because they have so many rivalry games too, they pull good ratings for Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

Mercury 03/14/23 07:54 AM ET
Right now it’s about football, that’s where the 💵 is. SEC rivalry model

Basketball is the next big expansion play. SEC and B1G

If the ACC would just treat expansion and scheduling for 🏈, like 🏀, they

Brand-on-brand? How about market-on-market?

Agree on Greg sankey

Where has Sankey Put on the Brakes?
WarHog38 03/14/23 12:10 AM ET
Why did Sankey feel a need for this? Is more to come?

If you listened to Big Ten de-facto realignment mouthpiece Greg Flugar,
Maroon Baboon 03/14/23 10:51 PM ET
Each of them actually is trying to prevent a lawsuit. Same with FSU.

Two things.

What does "aggressive" even mean in this current environment?
Maroon Baboon 03/14/23 01:09 AM ET
True on FSU & Clemson
WarHog38 03/14/23 01:41 AM ET
I don't think it's a rivalry model as much as it's just a passion model.
Maroon Baboon 03/13/23 02:18 PM ET
Now you are debating the chicken or the egg, let me go with the egg for now
Stech 03/13/23 04:34 PM ET
I think it has moved past football. This is now about conf branding
HokieAl 03/13/23 01:04 PM ET
B1G is certainly buying that, but not the SEC, the SEC draws #s on rivalry
Stech 03/13/23 01:39 PM ET
Uhhm Nike earns less from Oregon than other areas?

For Oregon it is a matter of location
HokieAl 03/13/23 02:12 PM ET
Location not as important than size and robustness for big 10
Mercury 03/16/23 05:36 PM ET
Conferences with the best football teams and rivalries have the best brand.
Stech 03/13/23 04:04 PM ET
UO could easily be taken by the BigXII.
Maroon Baboon 03/13/23 02:23 PM ET
ACC is screwed. Big money is already in control
HokieAl 03/13/23 10:58 AM ET
I am afraid so. The best and only path for all ACC teams not named

I still don't buy into the "Miami hype" that everyone seems to post here
EDGEMAN 03/13/23 03:50 PM ET
Miami is a great brand nonetheless
SpeakToDamien 03/13/23 05:24 PM ET
Miami still gets decent football TV ratings. That gives them some value.
