An inside the park HR usually happens with a fielding mistake, where an outfielder fails to cut off the ball before it rolls to the fence. Perhaps such fielding mistakes happen less frequently now than they did before. Shorter fences in some ballparks probably play a role as well. It was almost 500 feet to the center field fence at the polo grounds.

them with their unusual design. Even Forbes Field and the Baker Bowl had their distinct charm about them too. I wonder if having more stadiums with quirks would help bring excitement back to MLB.
