Pulaski County early 2000s football
We could legitimately hire an athletic Director (Matt Roan, James Madison, A.D.), head of Hokie club and fundraising (Scott Hughes, Director of advancement Alabama) and a football general manager, which I know we don’t currently need, Jeff King from the Chicago Bears. All these guys graduated within about two years of each other from Pulaski. While we are at it will just get Shayne Graham to be the kicking coach. Kind of a crazy talent pipeline from a small southwest Virginia school.

Clark, Hicks, Porter. Dunnigan also to the list of PC greats.
Michael Porter (played at Syracuse) might be the best athlete I've ever seen in HS regarding shear athleticism. 5'11, All American, slam dunk champion. Could stand flat footed under the rim and jump straight up and dunk the basketball.with a true height of about 5'10. Absolute freak of nature. PC has had some great ones. Although he was a star at WVU, I've seen Randy Dunnigan at many Tech games over the years.

Porter was exceptional playing against RVD talent in high school.
So fun to watch him. College ball was at St. Johns. Shame things didn’t work out at VT. ** Edited by VT825 at 5/1/2026, 6:58:35 PM

I ran a small 3 on 3 basketball league in Bailey's X Roads early 90s
This guy showed up and was absolutely lighting everyone up. Looked so familiar. Looked at the team roster: yep, Michael Porter. I played hoops against him in Junior High. He was legendary.

Correct. St. Johns
My aging mind is showing. St.Johns is correct, not Syracuse.

Yep, played against Porter back when
He got about 35 pts against us one night. It was Moir's dream to get him and Richard Morgan out of Salem to be the great backcourt combo at VT after Dell and Perry Young. But Morgan was always UVa bound, and of course Porter...didn't work out.

All you need is Todd Grantham

The state championship game vs. Mt. Vernon
PC held their own until Grantham went down in the 2nd half. Stud lineman played both ways. 83-84 +/-

dat was a very strong team. we nicked them 9-6 on a 3-metal FGA tri-doink
(upright, crossbar, upright again) and it fell over for the win. Only team to beat them 3 straight under Joel-- who was a helluva a good, solid, basic 'ball coach. Had a really nice run up state for Beckley prior to that epic P.C.H.S. era. That bowl countersunk Stadium with that cougar: "GROWL" was All The Right Moves style football. Respect @them. They were, legit. 💯, b.street

Except we haven’t hired them. There are lots of state schools who have
supplied Tech with similar talent.
