5 things about Notre Dame snub đ
1. EVERY real team, including the academies, risked playing in a title game this past weekend. Some qualified, most did not. Some may even have preferred NOT to be in it. But nevertheless, they were. But only Notre Dame has a planned week off. So to me, their regular season needed to be better in order for them to get in.
2. Notre Dame has gotten preferential treatment from bowl committees and playoff committees for decades now. We all know this to be true. 2001 Fiesta Bowl anyone? Now, for once, they are on the wrong end of the cut line and now it's a big injustice to them.
3. While I think bowls are antiquated, and that FSU should have not gone to the Orange Bowl when they were undefeated and snubbed by the CFP, it seems particularly petty of the Irish to just reject a bowl game when they were just on the bubble of a 12-team field.
4. If you feel like you were robbed ND, it's time to join the ACC. You could have played Virginia yesterday in a play in game. In the past, ND (Swarbrick, I think) had said that they will remain independent as long as they have access to the playoff. I wonder if this will change their mind? I doubt it. Also, the ACC has bent over backward for ND. We let them play a full ACC schedule during Covid. We even let them talk us into allowing Stanford and Cal to join. I don't object to Stanford and Cal and much as I do anyone listening to ND on the matter.
5. While I think ND should have gotten in over Alabama, I am glad someone finally told Notre Dame, we don't need you.

Everything else seems irrelevant. Unless they were somehow judged to be ineligible for postseason like PSU was for a few years
If you feel they should join a conference, then exclude them from the CFP entirely until they join. That would force their hand

ND forfeits the chance to be one of those 5 teams. So they are competing for 7 spots in reality.
Realistically, ND needs to be in the Top 9 to get in (assuming that the P2 champs will always be ranked in the Top 10). And TT is also this year. So this year, they needed to be in the Top 10.
These are the rules agreed to by all parties.
I'm not into forcing ND to join a conference, but I am also deaf to the whining when they are on the bubble with two losses.

By ending their season now, they get extra time to focus on preparing for the transfer portal and look for replacements (if any staff leave or are pushed out).
For the players, it doesnât risk injury for a meaningless game (now that espn has made the playoff the only thing that matters). That is relevant for players going to NFL draft, players who will return next year, and players who might transfer.
There is literally no benefit for a top level P2 program to play in a bowl game anymore. They get plenty of money from other sources. Players are paid enough that schools want to protect them. And even the big bowls are not the playoffs so they are just exhibition games now.

ND was lead to believe for several weeks that they were ahead of Miami, despite the head-to-head loss earlier in the season.
Suddenly overnight, while neither ND or Miami was playing this weekend, the committee swapped them, and put Miami in the playoffs. WHY ? Never had a valid explanation. If previous weeks were good enough for ND to be in, what happened when neither played and they got swapped at the last minute?
ND has this reason to be pissed. They were mislead for a month.

No conference has a guaranteed spot in the playoffs. Miami (and the ACC) just happened to be ranked high enough to be in the discussion. If Miami were 15th in the poll, yes the ACC would have been left out. Also this is why Duke didn't make it - they're conf champs now, but ranked too low.
It will happen one day where a conference gets left out. (this is why VT needed to make that huge athletic dept budget increase when we did - in any future round of expansion, VT NEEDS to be included). (foresight!)

front of Miami, especially after A&M lost to Texas. Remember, ND was living off their close loss to undefeated A&M.
To your larger point, the CFP should NOT even be doing polls with the exception of the last one. It just sets them up for second guessing. Just release the final bracket like they do in NCAABB.
But the *****s at ESPN what a ratings show and fodder for the talking head shows. ESPN is running college football in case anyone was wondering who is in charge.

So, they are not going to get it perfect on ND/Miami until they are side by side and have played Miami won no brainer!
So in hindsight they probably should have put Miami ahead last week. However, what do they do then if BYU loses to Texas Tech in 4 OTs?
Yeah, they were like the hot mid - west girl gave ND the tease and dumped him for the boy from South Beach she met on spring break!

Just not in time for this year. I think next year the rules change and ND will automatically get in if they are ranked in the final Top 12.

They just dropped ND two slots while idle while no team that moved ahead of them won.
Winning a conference would protect them far more.

If college football doesn't play by their rules, they will take their ball and go home. Pouting is so childish. It finally happened that Notre Dame missed the cut. They can't handle it.
