The clear objective for our next coach, is to hire someone that makes VT...
relevant again so we can make the next round of conference consolidation. There will be two conferences and any team that is chosen to join will have the resources to compete. Our next coach needs to be someone that puts us in a position to be picked. Never going anywhere if we remain outside of the SEC or BIG.

The chosen have already pretty well been chose and anointed. Wins are not the only thing for relevance, I still believe as I have posted for years, that it is the media/betting platforms that have a marketing plan and we are not a part of it.
The clear objective should be to get more stable, get better then get better.
As far as the P2 goes, I would guess they have about 20 resumes of potential schools to include and VT is one of those. But they don't want 20 more in this environment.

Franklin is the best choice as of today….. brings recruits with him, national exposure, immediate relevance. Downfall is he is gone in 5 years. We need to return to national prominence now!

Who's your guy, and please explain what you're not going to be assuming about him.....he's better against the to 25 because he's never played any/very few?

I would take Chesney in a heartbeat over Franklin for about 10 different reasons. I would take almost very name that has been thrown about for the VT job over Franklin. He's just not a good coach against peers and VT has mostly peers on it's schedule.

We literally made a living off winning the ACC lol
What are you talking about?
What's the highest ranked B1G team?
What's the highest ranked ACC team?

VT has a very small window of opportunity here. And the current landscape requires having enough money to buy a great roster thru the portal. We need great coordinators to game plan for that talent with the expectation of immediate results.
What we don’t need is to overpay for a HC that did well under the old system of recruiting and developing players over time.
It’s NFL time. Get a great system and players that fit and who can produce right away. And be aggressive on offense to maximize points, which makes for good tv and viewership.

Let me help you...theres more than one. Here's the list...each with their own challenges.
Nick Saban
Kirby Smart
Ryan Day
Jim Harbaugh
Btw..what we pay for coaches does not impact what we pay for players. Player cap will be fully funded before we negotiate staff salaries.
"Get a great system and players that fit and who can produce right away".
No problem, what coaches do you have in mind that have the potential to amass the most 4* athletes on the VT campus at any one time in history by their first game? JF could very well do that.
He is literally the only coach available that has even a PRAYER of flipping the script on recruiting, be it high school, portal, or otherwise. It is almost guaranteed that any other coach is going to be bringing in the same mediocre(at best) talent Pry and Fuente did.

But the money Tech is going to pour into football will trickle into player salaries somehow. Franklin plus money would bring in the most talent. But coach X plus money will bring in more than we have been getting. Look at Uva. What did they have to sell the transfer class everybody loved? Losing tradition +empty aluminum bleachers+ money = a nice influx of talent.

You think we'd have ever fired a guy that averages close to 10 wins/season, but struggled in the biggest games? We know the answer to that...we built a statue of a guy that did that.
and again...I ask...who's your guy with a better case to be made?

You cant name him, bevause you know your standard of JF applied to anyone else, eliminates them. ...lol. VT would never fire a coach with JF record. Not in a million years.

That's how deep
A little delusional about where we're at
ANYTHING is an improvement
I'm not like ultra pro Franklin and ultimately think there's more smoke than substance
Fuente was the "hot hand"
Didn't work
Pry was the nice guy
Didn't work
Based on your posts, you want the hot hand
I don't mind Chesney or Mullen at all either

He was doing a "good" job by any reasonable measure, just not winning the very biggest games against the very best teams in his conference. I remember a guy named Beamer whose record was worse against the top teams. Did he not do a "good" job?

I don't expect them to remain static, but we'll be able to afford plenty of talent.

It's also more than Texas Tech is spending on their roster this year. I just looked OSU spent 20 million on their roster last year.

But I have read it lots of places online. If you want James Franklin he is flat out telling his suitors he needs 30 million in NIL for his roster.

"“I was told James Franklin wants to know he has at least $30 million to spend on a roster,” said Trey Biddy of HawgSports. “Two sources tell me that the interest between Arkansas and Franklin is very much legit. There has been contact there. Arkansas is basically going to make Franklin tell them ‘no.’”"

Why isn't Franklin the favorite on the betting markets for the Arkansas job if Trey Biddy is so locked in? Interest between Ark & JF is legit because there has "been contact"? Wow, that's connecting some pretty faint dots there. If Arkansas was going to make JF tell them "no", wouldn't it be a done deal already - one way or the other? Could it be possible that Jimmy Sexton is planting rumors to give schools a case of FOMO? Nah never...
Where is VT going to get $30M for the roster AND hire James Franklin and fund all the other football projects and non-football sports? How does that work? How much in additional NIL $$ will that require? $15M? Where does that come? And even if they do, how long will that be remotely close to the bar for a roster?

You said it was based on "wishful thinking". Dont freak out when you'te wrong. It was based on a report by somebody in the business. It remains to be seen if its true, but its certainly plausible.
The BOV just approved 45M immediately this year, that's not wishful thinking, so obviously, we're working in a new paradigm. Clearly there is going to be a massive new investment in football. The exact number remains to be seen.

If you aren't your stance makes sense. If you are then I would only assume you missed the posts. Key people that are in the know and are usually spot on have posted updates, and based on their track record in the past I trust what they're saying. I didn't know I was on the free board when I made the post, and I'm not going to give you any more supporting info or evidence to support my original post, because I don't divulge pay content on the free side.
