Supposedly, Auburn told Sexton they're going in a different direction
I think by tomorrow or Wednesday, VT will announce Franklin as the new head coach. Again, maybe it won't, it's just what I'm hearing.....

Everything can change quickly. Will Stewart said yesterday that VT made their offer and told Sexton and Franklin to be expedient on their answer or they'll have to move on...

Sounds like it's been fairly quiet the last few days.

He is correctly identified as a coach who can’t win the big game and they are looking for a coach who wins big games. Had VT not gone all in on him up front, this would cost him millions.
I’m still not convinced his ego will allow him to come to VT and believe that would be in VT’s best interest if he moved on. I have serious concerns that he will have 1 foot out the door constantly and will loot the place when he does leave for a job he actually wants. We need a program builder and not a personal brand builder and his ego puts him closer to the latter.

I didn't understand the over-the-top respect on this board for PSU when Pry was hired and I don't get it now. They've been little more than a wet dream under Franklin.

them in games. PSU fans I know wanted Pry as their next head coach... but we know now how Pry worked out as Head Coach at VT.

I think nobody else wants because he's more than had his chance.

I mean, you may not like Franklin and he has his warts, but he is CLEARLY a superior coach/CEO compared to O’Brien.
Come on.
Yup

It's harder to be a winning coach in the NFL - where resources are basically equal - than win 9 games a year in the B1G with much better resources than 85%+ of your opponents.
Again, the point is in an apples to apples consecutive 2 yr comparison at PSU, Franklin took over from O'Brien (who managed to win B1G coach of the year and Bryant National Coach of the year in Y2) and actually went slightly backwards. And this was after O'Brien did all of the heavy lifting coming out of the Sandusky debacle.

will disagree.
You clearly can’t stand the idea of
Franklin, and I’m good with that.
O’Brien has absolutely sucked in college.
But you do you.
Yup.

win enough of the marquee games? If VT can't win enough of the marquee games regardless of the HC, then it will have trouble getting back to a level VT was at in the late '90s.

I thought Miami and FSU were returning to form this year but they are dissolving before our eyes. UVA is on top of the conference for goodness sake a year after future FCS star Pop Watson shredded them. This league is wide open and ripe for the taking.

ACC's version of Michigan, Michigan St, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Ohio State for Franklin. You are right the ACC is wide open and ripe for the taking. Can Franklin shake the marquee monkey off his back regardless of which conference he is coaching in?

games, then it could make it easy for people to resurrect the Chokies nickname which won't help VT's effort to rebuild its brand. If this is a critical time for schools looking for a remaining spot at the P2 table, then being able to deliver on a regular basis in marquee games may be critical. Particularly if teams look to beef up their OOC schedules with 3 or 4 P2/P4 opponents every year.

If VT decides to hire him, then Franklin will have the opportunity to change his future. The only way a HC can shake the marquee monkey off their back is to perceptually start winning more of those games.

to do that. we recruit the same footprint, the ACC is easier to win, VT has shown in the past we can make it to the big games, BCS.... ect. I think he is going to be driven. he is a different personality than we are used to, but good personality guys like Pry didn't win. I think he will get us in the playoffs quickly, may not win once he gets there, but they may be enough for us.
