I think I still lean toward Pat Fitzgerald. Love the toughness he brings to
a program. Heck, you can hire him before season ends and he can get jump on staff and players. Plus he brings a freshness of NO VT ties which I think is important.

Much like Clausen at Wake. They like to develp talent and redshirt. Hard to do in todays environment.

Start with whose position can be improved by taking the job and he’s certainly in that category.

I don't think VT wants to deal with the past hazing issue (not saying Fitz is guilty of anything) and would prefer a fresh start with a coach without baggage.

That is a HUGE concern. I just don't think he's a good fit at this point in time. The 2 previous years 2019/2020, he was 10-11. However, it was Northwestern, and it's extremely difficult to win based on their resources, so we have to take that into account. I just hope the committee gets it right, so I guess we'll see.

If the committee makes the wrong hire, VT is going to be looking from the outside during the next conference realignment. The ACC as a whole is in a tough situation. I expect 4-6 teams will be plucked into the SEC and Big10 conferences. Miami, Florida State, Clemson, UNC, and Virginia seem to be the teams most desired at this point for various reasons.

Not all good coaches are hireable.

Not saying that with the right GM he can't get it done, but the world has changed a lot since he was at Northwestern.
