Please explain what happened last night vs NCS
Didn't watch the game, tuned out several years ago. But a team that had its HC fired 3 games into the season, and then had a bunch of players opt out or head to the portal to leave (I assume at least some were starters), and who has an average at best starting QB, won its ACC opener? It was not what I exoected when I looked at scores this morning. What happened? Was Pry playing the wrong guys? Is NCS that bad?

Terion Stewart was healthy enough to get more than a couple carries

And the rest of the team came to play. Total team win…
Snot bubbles from our defense. It’s been a long time since our defense was that impactful.

Resist tuning out... all the hard losses make the wins much more sweet

Understood, but for me it's all of CFB, not VT
CFB is all money now. There are a few outliers as the system takes hold, but we are well on the way to the top 25 being the top $$$$$ 25 with a possible exception or two if a team has a great coach and an all-world player. I have no interest in that. I get NIL, but the way it has been applied is horrible. Now CFB is all about "betting bro" fans and money. No thanks, at least the NFL has a hard cap. I traded Saturday for Sunday. All that said, I am happy for VT today.

Gotcha - tuning out due to NIL instead of ineptitude is understandable...
I find myself far less vested and more disconnected with the continued migration from "student athlete" to amateur athlete" to "paid professional athlete". It is currently disenfranchising with the roster turnover and overly light regulation.

Clearly Pry and the quitters were the wrong people
Monty changed the way we prepared and game planned, and our young guys answered the challenge. We played 5 true freshmen on defense, and they played well. We are very thin this season in personnel, but their motivation is through the roof. They want to win! Quite a contrast to the quitters who only wanted to get paid for minimal effort.

Took a couple weeks to get the uncommitted and self-focused gone
I think a big part of the problem is that Pry had lost the team last year, and there were a lot of players only out there for themselves. When you're not all in for the team, you get what you saw on the field. What I saw last night was a far better organized team, players on defense actually playing their responsibilities (who the heck is this Christian Ellis kid that was a major impact?). The team last night looked like a bunch of guys who were playing for each other and had some belief in themselves, each other, and their coaches. The true team leaders seem to have emerged as well. Honestly, last night was all I wanted to see out of this team the rest of this season. They played with intensity, and had they lost at the end, I could have lived with the effort.

What had happened was:
- Tons of heart all around - D played very well at times, with upfront pressure, TFLs, and sacks - NC State isn't known for good D AFAIK, and they blitz every third down, so they started to capitalize on that with some nice pressured conversions - Drones was more good than bad (man he had a NICE throw to Aiden Greene who just dropped it, for all the flack I give him, that was a beaut) - RB Stewart has entered the chat. Apparently injured and now back, this dude was knocking people over and spin moving left and right. His open field juke... LOL. Dude's our best player behind... - K Love. He may be the best kicker in CFB. Our team iced him on a delay of game, still made it. There were still some questionable clock management decisions but not Pry esque, more Beamer esque To misquote Dwight Vick, the players that left were from an 1-2 team and a losing team last year. We just want the dawgs who want to wear VT. And they showed up.

Basically, don't be sad anyone left because they came from a losing
mentality/team anyway

That's amazing, really... you have to think players were not as talented
If they weren't starters. So either Pry was not good at seeing talent, or everyone on the team was so close that it didn't matter.
