This is what happens when you are playing to win
and not making it all about the $

Was hoping we would have gone for it on that 4th and a foot at the end
but happy the defense stepped up

If we didn't make it, State would have had a short field to work for a FG
It just wasn't worth the risk. Now if it was just before halftime...

You have it exactly backwards. Just before the half it may not...
...have been worth it just to keep a drive alive. I mean, maybe, but not as obvious. You're correctly considering the downside of failing (very bad!) but not giving nearly enough value to the upside of success (immediate victory!). And we are a very significant favorite to get half a yard there.

Yeah disagree. We are a team with nothing to lose.
Just got for it. I’m glad the D held on, but we should have gone for the win there. If our 230lbs qb can’t get 1 foot, we deserve to lose.

Disagree. Glad we held on but
If we gain 1 foot, we win. Nothing to lose at 1-3. Should’ve gone for it

Zero question about it.
Going for it there is like 90/10 to win the game outright right there. No way we were that big of a favorite by punting. That said...he coached and managed the game very, very well aside from that and it's the kind of decision where even just like 15 yrs ago almost everybody would've punted. So I'm happy for both him and the guys that it worked out and I'm gonna let it go lol. Also will probably result in some future benefit by showing confidence in the defense and having them rise to the occasion.

Also I should say he nailed the decision to go for it quickly...
...early in the 3Q after NCSt had scored on their 1st possession. It was the exact same decision at almost the exact same place on the field where Pry punted vs Vandy (literally the turning point of the game and beginning of the end for his tenure).

Yep, with control of the flow of the game at stake, just like tonight.
