VT felt That the university should do no independent investment in collega athletics. THey just thought buying season tickets and 25 a year would cover it. When The huge cash flow happened in 1995-2010, VT did not do anything to reinvest to get the program better. All they saw was a program self funded doing well.. They could just set back.... (and also take money from athetlics to fund the university. Now the bill is due.

the thinking before Dooley, during Dooley and after Dooley had nothing to do with no independent investment thinking. The thinking from 1995 - 2010 and not reinvesting was an overestimating of the effectiveness of their model, an overestimating of their ability to continue to drive incremental improvement with that model and the failure to recognize coming industry shifts further clouded by health and personal issues. Your accusation of taking money from athletics to fund the university is unfounded, absurd and totally ignores any benefits derived by athletics from the university's internal cost allocation structure. As you have been told countless times before, do better Merc instead of just pretending.

Even if VT replaced Babcock with another AD who gets it, then there is nothing the AD can do to make up for that lost time. VT could get better and still not change the perception that it can't win enough marquee games on the big stage. If that is the case, then has VT truly gotten "better?"
