This only proves that the playoff destroyed the bowl system
I know many folks on this site were in favor, but I and many others predicted this would happen. Bowls used to mean a fun end to the season, bragging rights, etc. Now the playoff is everything and bowls mean absolutely nothing. It wasn’t just predictable it was predicted. How many people here enjoy the bowl season as much as they did pre-playoff? I eagerly await for the opt-outs from players in the bottom eight CFP contenders who must weigh the benefits of a three-game season playing the baddest of the bad vs draft prep in south Florida.

I agree 100%. Playoffs have basically ruined college football postseason

Playoff + NIL + portal = death of CFB

Can’t have it both ways
For decades, fans of the FBS lamented that the Bowls didn’t produce a clear National Champion. Every tweak, starting with the Bowl Coalition (or was it “Alliance?), was heading towards a 12-game playoff. Now the system is one season away from that structure. So probably best to be satisfied with an acceptable alternative. Looks like the sport isn’t big enough for two systems. If Division I-A is now FCS 2, then it’s a natural development for the Bowl system do die out.

Never wanted it both ways.

Was the BCS better than the CFP committee?

The old bowl system was better than any of it
I said many times that the constant controversy of the antiquated bowl system was far more interesting than any division 2-style playoff would ever be. I was correct. ** Edited by lawhokie at 12/30/2023, 5:57:26 PM

Without a few of their stars?
Nothing that’s happening today vindicates the committee. 5 of the front 7 on D aren’t playing — including Verse. The top two WRs. The star running back. The 1st and 2nd stringnQBs. The 2nd string QB didn’t opt out until last week. The 3rd string guy could’ve been getting reps all month but basically had a week to get ready. Let’s be honest — this FSU squad playing today isn’t the same as the one that was snubbed by the committee. .

I don't think fsu's resume is that great, but who knows what would have
Happened if they made the cfp and everyone was there playing.

Some on this board really don't enjoy having their opinions challenged
and they tend to revert to name calling.

Same people who'd be ok with two SEC teams in CFP
Bama and UGA and have no problem with Texas being left out and the SEC having their 1,428th natty in a row.

It almost requires an intentional effort to
avoid using critical thinking skills to think this result vindicates the CFP committee.

Means nothing. I don't mind Fsu guys opting out...
Espn sat around and beat them down day after day, then they want to make money on them playing UGA. I don't have much respect for ESPN. I hope the ratings are at rock bottom. Probably will not be with 2 teams from big states.
