On Sept. 26, 1953, the Virginia Tech football team celebrated its 20-6 win over the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. When Tech coach Frank Moseley benched star quarterback Johnny Dean because of a questionable knee, former punter Jack Williams made the most of his shot at QB, scoring the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Anyone know the year VT started using face mask?
Wikipedia says the following:
Face masks first came into vogue in football during the second half of the 1950s, after the hard-shell plastic helmet became commonplace, and were adopted voluntarily and universally at all levels of gridiron football within one decade.

I did not know or remember that his Dad played Div 1 football. I heard his dad was good and his son played QB for Hopewell. After graduating, married his high school sweet heart.
