Sources: Virginia Tech is targeting Arizona Cardinals LB coach Sam Siefkes as the school’s new defensive coordinator. Siefkes is an integral part of the Cardinals' innovative NFL scheme, and he brings collegiate defensive coordinator experience, including a stint at Wofford. He brings NFL experience from two seasons with the Vikings as a quality control coach and the assistant linebackers coach. Along with his time at Wofford, he’s also coordinated defense at UW-Platteville.

Some of the things NFL coaches say about him.He's young, energetic and smart, an innovator able to come up with ways to stop offenses.Mike Zimmer, a great young coach, one of the best I ve ever been around, a rising star.

There is no way that hiring this guy, with that resume, from that particular NFL team, would have taken this long, had he been the primary candidate.
Much like when Babcock said he valued previous HC experience and then hired a guy with none of that... this just continues the trend of saying one thing, hiring another, and inhaling a LOT of hopium.

Do you think every school (even the blue bloods) always get their "primary candidate"? FWIW it doesn't sound like he was very far down the list (top 5). But none of that matters. If he succeeds here no one is going to be like "Well sure but he wasn't the primary candidate".
