Zach and Mike called out the officials more than I’ve ever heard in a game
They generally refrain from that, so I have to believe it was as bad as it sounded. I’ve never heard of two of those guys (Clougherty or Kumpf). Not exactly an A-list crew. And then there was the official scorer who probably needs to be in another line of work, allowing the clock to run during free throws and sounding the horn during VT (of course) free throw attempt.
Can anyone shed light on the play very near the end (:25 remaining) that allowed Wake to retain possession with :20 on the shot clock, from which they then made the game winning three? Zach and Mike were adamant that our guy (Schutt or Bedford, I believe) was fouled, with Zach exclaiming, “oh my, he was tackled, just grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground” while he had the ball. He then lost it out of bounds and they give the ball to Wake, no foul. That sounds incredulous. Did any of you see it differently than that? Certainly appears it should’ve been a foul called on Wake but I know that’s too much to expect when you’re on the road.
We were really bad in the first ten minutes. That said, it certainly sounded like Wake got a massive number of calls their way. Cheap fouls on VT, especially Hansberry and Gurdack. I may have missed one, but I can’t recall a single time VT got a 50/50 call going its way in this game.
Onward and upward. But man, this was a real opportunity to steal one on the road. Hope it doesn’t come back to bite us in March.

back to being good enough that winning against 1-9 on the road is going to be tough and frankly any road game could be tough, look at fsu and duke right now.

The guy who fouled out...He was called for going through Neo. A real call, but they made it. The foul call on the screen when a WF player kind of grabbed VT player. We THINK we got no calls, but we did.

It’s easy for a ref to make the wrong call or miss a call. I’m not blaming the refs on this one. Got to fight through the bad calls or missed calls. Some went our way and some did not. We just played poorly. A lot of turnovers. Too many missed rebounds. Just missing our depth. Johnson defending against Calmese today probably a different story. We just got to get healthy. If refs call a lot of fouls inside we are in trouble until we have more depth.

The Neo call was a good call. One can’t just run thru someone who has position. The non back court was atrocious as was the mugging of Bedford on the baseline. Officiating was terrible.

from the officials. It's not surprising and is a big part of why it is hard to win on the road. We benefitted from that on Wednesday and did not today.

Not sure about Kumpf though. Covington is a “senior” official who sometimes seems like he needs cataract surgery. I thought he blew a number of calls today.
Haven’t seen TV Teddy (Valentine) yet this season. For his age, Teddy does a better job than most. At least Jamie Luckie is no longer officiating.

and Billy Covington. Heater ruins any game he officiates because of constant foul calls. He ruins the beauty of the game. Covington is just flat out bad. And, both are senior officials.

it wasn't difficult to see...Refs swallowed their whistles.

He lost the ball because the Wake player had his arm

there was more contact by the Wake player going over the back of Jones then Hansberry had on the Wake player on his 5th foul.

It would have looked like they were looking because Mike was asking for it.

And he was. FWIW, the first challenge looked like an over the back on Wake; to me, anyway.

But you can’t review that. So they could only call the ball out of bounds.
