Young needs to have serious sitdown with pedulla

Yes, he should give him a raise & praise him for bailing us out
Of two neutral site games when the rest of the team was in a funk! Seriously, what is good enough for you? Constant nitpicking gets tiresome.

And tell him what? Maybe "I know you're the best ball-handler on this team,
but VAHokie89 doesn't like that you're only 19th in the country in tempo-free assist rate. Could you work on that? And would you please quit making huge shots at key moments in the games? And while you're at it, your free-throw percentage is only 7th on the team. And you're only the 3rd best defensive rebounder on the team." Yes, he's not perfect and occasionally tries to do too much. But he's tasked with being the primary ball-handler for 90% of the minutes in close games. The ball "stuck" at times last night, but Pedulla wasn't the only offender. I suspect that will be part of the discussion with the team.

So did you repond the same way to david cunningham
Since david clearly asked the question with pedulla’s issues in mind? You know that, if we had lost, everyone here would lambast him for the same exact plays. You can appreciate the value of the player but still critique elements of his play. Happens everyday in sports But thanks

if David were to write "Young needs to have a serious sitdown with pedulla"
I would pose similar questions. If he were to write that "Pedulla was removed from the game after committing turnovers on consecutive possessions" I would hope that he would have asked Young what he said to Pedulla when he subbed him out. In my mind, that's vastly different than saying he needs to have a "serious sitdown." That sounds a lot like calling out the guy who, in my opinion, has been our best player in our toughest games this season.

So when he was playing poor in the first half against USC
and when he was forcing things last year, you ignored it? David didn't necessarily word his post as saying but. to me, he likely was asking about the issues that Pedulla had with turnovers, etc. Young's response tells you they were referring to the bad. And young saying you take the bad with the good, tells you they were discussing the bad. And note i didnt say pedulla was bad, was not important, didn't make plays. People are funny. The same exact things that they castigate a poster for pointing out, they will point out or the coaches will acknowledge. For example, can't say Amoore played poorly yesterday but Kenny will say it.

Writing about Pedulla in the morning...
Asked Mike about Pedulla. He said, and I'm paraphrasing (full quote in the upcoming story), that Tech's going to have to live with some of that stuff sometimes from Pedulla because he does so much else well.

Anyone with an eye for the game and our roster, should already know that.

Well, we're still having this conversation, so...

To discuss dinner plans when they return to B'Burg?

Dinner for a serious sit-down? That didn't end well for Jimmy Hoffa.

This post is TIC, Correct? Serious? Can't be. Really?

Coach Young to Pedulla “You can make me upset with your decisions”
“But, keep playing hard, don’t try to do everything on your own, trust your teammates, and be a leader”. That’s the only serious sit down I would have with him.

Yes, please stop taking clutch 3s when no one else steps up

Yes, a stern talking to will do the trick.

I think his dribble-till-you-drop tonight was in part due to teammates . .
. . . not working hard enough to get to where they needed to be.

But last year was not?
BackInTheBurg BackInTheBurg
Would like to hear that from CMY. He’s a really, really good player. From a
+|- perspective he was the best we had tonite. Would love to see play with a little more control and not over dribble. He gets stuck in the lane , or in the baseline corner, at times with no one to pass to, sometimes even in the air because he’s just trying to do too much which leads to unnecessary turnovers. Usually more good than bad with him. He could really become an elite ACC PG in the next season and a half.

But those are critiques that go with the good things. Is that allowed?

It’s called go to their spots. Scouting makes this easier to defend
By the end of the season every team knows what you do unless you work wrinkles in to offense. Every team will have hours of film to see how you attack every type of defense. Then it’s individual efforts, hitting tough shots, and even luck in you’ll succeed.
MidloHokie MidloHokie
Agree; but this game was one where there would have been very . . .
. . . limited defensive prep. Likely only walking through some stuff at the hotel. ISU's double-teams were very effective. One reason why is that we had guys just standing on 'their spots'.
1980VT 1980VT
But it was a standard trapping post defense
It’s something that is part ISU defense. They just need to know who the outlets are and where they’ll be. VT sets up in standard ways after they feed the post. VT needs to vary it for future opponents but still keep same concepts. Also passing out of it a little quicker would help. Pass ball out, te-position and then get it back to attack.

He's avg 17, 5 and 6 while shooting 43% and 37% from 3 and 80% FT.
Yes, he does try to do too much at times and he can be lax on D, but man do people who only care about misses and turnovers like to tear him down.
YBYSAIAHokie YBYSAIAHokie
The thing is fatigue negatively affects his game. CMY needs to monitor that

Well…when you’ve never missed a shot…
…made a bad pass, or given up a basket on defense it’s easy to criticize those that do. 😉

I guess when i see those same posts come out lile last year
and other times that he forces it, peoplle will have a balanced view. In other games this year and last year, many people...dare i say some of these could criticize him for forcing it. Oh well, I can recognize his clutch shots and and getting some things done to help the team. But I also know how revisionism goes.
