Becker and Valincius are following to Miss St. most likely. Mainly a leverage play by Ford and Teel to get better draft money. O’Connor has shown some true colors. I feel good about the program regardless. Especially if they hire who things are trending towards. But yeah, expect another bubble type uva team next year. Lots of talent being drained by the man who “loved” uva.

If not him, likely Eddie Smith at Washington (former assistant, wife a uva grad) and then Vandys PC. Pollard is the clear #1, proven ACC winner at an academic school. At the P2 baseball level there’s only 4 names that fit that criteria (Pollard at Duke, Corbin at Vandy, Forbes at UNC and Oak at UVA lol bye). Not getting Corbin or Forbes so Pollard it is. Smith would be a sneaky good hire but a bit disappointing. Smith is a rising star and has turned Washington from bad to respectable quickly. Went from 19 to 29 wins in one year, RPI from mid 100s to 70s in one season. Vandys PC coach is one I’m least excited about - obviously a good coach who checks boxes, but the common thought was he’s next in line at Vandy once Corbin calls it a day. Don’t want that hanging over our heads. UVA can now offer a ridiculous package. After this weeks fun, uva has committed to 25 scholarships with another 5 coming from AccessUva (tuition and aid that serves as scholarship). Add in the roughly $5-$10 mil that was pledged by donors this week to the facilities and a large budget (near tops of P2), is an offer that maybe only a couple schools can match. That’s why they need to poach a winner like pollard, smith would be good but for what the offer is, just isn’t good enough. All in all, I was pissed at first but think this is for the better all around. An athletic department reset at this time makes sense. UVA/VT were in the same unstable footing trying to adjust to the new era of athletics and this week has pushed uva fully in to actually competing. Remains to be seen how that shakes for football/basketball, but think it’s for the best.
