This is typical for vt athlettic programs
Play well until momey games to raise the reputatin of the progrsm and boom crash and burn and disapoontment. And we hear our kids try hard and maybe next year - our programs do rhis for years Is rhis rhe measurement of excellence pr mediocrity

Will be 3 straight years since 2022 team just missed CWS.
Big tease first half of season; then collapse 2nd half.

Lots of injuries late in the season will do that.

Sentlinger injury is 100% on the staff - just complete incompetence
Guy threw 20 pitches on Friday night. So maybe you bring him back for 40-45 pitches on Sunday, and that is pushing it…he threw 75 pitches. 95 for the weekend, as a reliever. He was out for the year within the week.

I’m sure you’re right but that seems a bit simplistic. What happened to
Clement, for example? Did they do something wrong by starting him early in the season? Seems to me that pitchers get hurt all the time, some of them quite often.

Good teams don't use that as a excuse

More facts than an excuse.
They were playing much better before the injuries started mounting up.

Yes. But don’t waste your breath trying to explain that.

Yes; Michel and Sentlinger were the ones we couldn’t survive
Add in Cherry and there you go

Moved the goalposts didn't you.
The thread is "most teams" and you tried to make it VT singular. A truth is that injuries do often limit the upside of teams. Does it apply to VT in 2025? Certainly not like it did for football 2024.

Going to ask you the same question i have asked others
Is it that we are slightly below NCAA bid team that hit a hot streak earlier then came back to reality OR Is it we are a NCAA level team that just, as you say "collapsed?"
hokiepro hokiepro OP
The collapse has reasons: we are an NCAA tourney team with Michel, Clement
Sentlinger, Hughes and Cherry Without them? Not looking like it

Voice of reason!

I'm not so sure . . . Pitt won on Friday night for only 2nd time in ACC
play. To me, that is telling. Typically teams throw their best on Friday nights. Pitt is awful offensively (evidenced by their 14 Ks last night) yet still managed 9 runs! VT can't seem to get 4 or 5 good innings out of a starting pitcher (Renfrow was great for 2.1 innings last night) then the wheels come off. Catcher had multiple passed balls or mis-handled balls IN third or foirth inning and next thing we know Pitt is ahead to stay. Pitt is not an offensive juggernaut; yet they put 9 runs on the board. Even if VT was full strength, I'm just not sure they have the right make-up right now. Seems like last year, the year before, etc.

Szefc pulled him 1 inning too soon
Maybe 2 He pulled him after one leadoff walk in 5th
