Bases juiced, guy hits a chopper to 3rd. RUNNERS ARE MOVING on the ground ball. It's a chopper.....wasn't just smoked right to him. DeMartini is an elite 3rd baseman. He has phenomenal footwork. He knows how to attack baseballs and when to sit back. He had no choice but to attack the baseball. In that process, his momentum took him well into the grass of the infield. There was a near Zero percent chance of him fielding that ball, hitting the breaks, and then somehow getting back to the baserunner who was nearly to third. No way. He made the right play going to first. Was going to be bang bang so he had to rush it. The throw was errant and Michel did what all first basemen are taught to do and tried to swipe the tag. That play happens in baseball quite often. The result yesterday in unfortunate - it really sucks.....but to say you can't forgive a kid (again, he made the right play) is a little wacky.

One even commented making the "easy play there (which was what?)." Another commented on remembering an error he made as a freshmen?? Bizarre. That play happens to first basemen on teams (as you know) 15-20 times in a season (the swipe tag as you mentioned). Total freak play. And to add in the "forgiveness" aspect also confirms a moral compass that is severely misguided, especially given a 20-21 year young man trying to make a play to help his team in a tight situation. One that he has demonstrated he can make. Don't know of anyone associated with VT that doesn't feel for both Garrett and Carson.

I still remember his costly mental/throwing error his freshman year at GT, then JMU on Tue and now Michel's injury. Reminding me of Gavin Cross in CF his draft year. Only worse.

There was nothing intentional or malicious about his play. Stuff happens.

more difficult play several times this season, versus the easy play. Seems possible it cost the hokies their 2nd best player his soph season. Dude was primed to have a monster season. Learn from it and move on.
