If there's a routine task you want it to do, have it generate a script, then you run that script. A lot of people having issues with AI are because they're using it carelessly (which may be partially the result of the companies hyping how it can do everything). Though runaway AI is a concern that serious, thoughtful people have had for a long time. But in this case, they needed better procedures. At my job, doing anything in production requires certain permissions and approvals and it's a whole ordeal, but for good reason.

or something. Jeff Bourne has a masters degree from Tech and worked here for about 10 years under Braine. He built JMU football from nothing, won 2 FCS championships and they're now one of the top G5 programs. Their success has been across 5 different head coaches. He built a program that as of late has been better than ours with a fraction of the resources. Plus they won a national championship in W Lax in 2019 and and M NCAA tournament game two years ago. And he hired Kenny Brooks before we did. I personally would prefer cutting about as much spending as allowed from nonrevenue sports before requiring students to pay more. But I'm not sure how that fits in with what the ACC requires or what a P2 conference would want. VT is already fairly expensive. Tuition is 50% higher than at UNC, for example. It's about as much to go in state to VT as it is to go out of state to FSU. Even with their high fees. It was probably an easier sell for them to justify the fees because they could point to schools like Tech and say they were still more affordable. VT is cheaper than UVA and William and Mary, but those schools follow more of the private school model of high sticker prices and lots of financial aid. VT doesn't seem to give nearly as much aid.

I asked it to tell me a story of what would’ve happened if Steph had come to Tech. Once upon a time, there was a young man named Steph Curry who was a highly sought after basketball prospect. He had grown up in a basketball family and had developed into one of the best shooters in the country. Despite interest from several top basketball programs, he ultimately decided to continue his career at Virginia Tech. When Steph arrived in Blacksburg, he immediately made an impact on the Hokies basketball program. His incredible shooting range and ability to score from anywhere on the court made him a fan favorite and helped Virginia Tech become a force to be reckoned with in the ACC. After winning the national championship, Steph declared for the NBA draft and was selected as the first overall pick. He went on to have a remarkable professional career, becoming a two-time MVP and leading the Golden State Warriors to several NBA championships. Years later, when Steph returned to Virginia Tech for a ceremony honoring the 10th anniversary of their national championship team, he was greeted with a hero's welcome. The Hokies' fans and alumni were grateful for the memories he had created and the impact he had had on their basketball program. I think there’s a decent distinction between the early 90’s and today because the early 90’s were still like the 80’s which were different. But the late 90’s and early 2000s seem pretty similar to now. Other than smart phones and being more gay friendly, I can’t think of too much that’s all that different. But maybe that’s all because I’m too young to remember the early 90’s and was a teenager in the early 2000’s. And social media wasn’t a huge deal when I was a teenager. We had Xanga which was basically a blog website that we all used, but it social media want as ever present as it seems to be now. It doesn’t make that much of a difference to me cuz I don’t use it much, but it probably does to yutes.

But that's still a good deal for a risk free asset at the moment. Say they set the new rate as 5% in October. You'd get 9.6% for 6 months and 5% for six months, for an average of about 7.3%. Deduct 3 months of interest and you're at just under 5.5% for a risk free asset. You can buy a max of $10,000 per person per year, so if you're married, y'all could by $20,000.

Whether laymen like us pick a winning stock is pure luck, IMO. VTI if you only want American stocks. Maybe an industry specific fund if you think a particular industry has potential that's not already priced into the market for some reason.
