Hate is missing
I think the ACC is missing some good old fashion hate. The SEC may root for each other out of conference but in conference they truly hate each other. Minus, the F-bombs, batteries, and airplane liquor bottles, I miss being in a conference with fans as passionate as WVU fans. Even the UVA rivaly seems tame these days.

Tough Choice
The last few weeks, watching FSU bemoan their financial shortcomings in the ACC, has really led me to dislike them even more than I thought I possibly could.
So when they play LSU in a few weeks, I would love to see LSU hang about 52 on them and beat them like a drum. However, that would further exacerbate the $EC narrative as to how much better they are than the ACC.

Notre Dame
I think he dropped the ball with ND in COVID season. I don't think he has the killer mentality a leader needed. I don't think Greg Sankey would have allowed ND to play a conference schedule and for the conference championship if they weren't in the league 100%. He should have played that situation and forced ND hand to join full-time or simply turned them down on their request. That would have resulted in ESPN deal being renegotiated to a much bigger amount.

If they don't accept, maybe Samford will come

FSU playing sympathy card
Now the former FSU QB and BOT member is bemoaning how broken college football has become. Either FSU overplayed their hand or they are playing chess while the rest of us are playing hungry hungry hippo.

Just grab Liberty
Might as well grab Liberty and their 94,000 students and invite while we are at it. Their facilities are as nice as most schools in the ACC. They would be a close rival that would be easy to hate. Seriously, like WVU they would fill up the stadium and they are in the Commonwealth. They have a ton of money as well and would probably work a deal like SMU and take no money for a few years. I am joking, but when you think about it, what exactly are we looking for in an expansion candidate.

SMU now being mentioned
This is great, Jim Phillips and the ACC leadership have officially jumped the shark.

Should someone call the Charlotte police and see if they will do a wellness check on him?

Agree 1000000%.
They are going the way of NASCAR. They are chasing the almighty $ and leaving those that got them here. It's not worked out for NASCAR and I don't think it will work out for CFB long-term. Thankfully Roanoke College is getting a team in a few years and I can get excited about some D-III football locally in addition to whatever league the Hokies end up in.

Landing Spot
Even if 8 wanted out, there is no guarantee they will land anywhere. It's not a given as to what the criteria is anymore. At one time it was media markets. Well Boston hasn't been a financial boom for ACC nor has Dallas for the Big 12, so that's probably not it anymore. Wins and losses are good, but until last year FSU wasn't setting the world on fire and they are being mentioned. Heck if it was wins/losses Wake Forest should be close to the top. So we are in a place of ultimate uncertainty and it's not looking great right now. Meanwhile the Pawl Finebaum's of the world continue to be smug and dismissive of anything not $SEC and to a lesser extent the BIG. Heck he was laughing today when he said the college playoff needs to change in 2 years and just take the top 12 and limit it to the $EC and BIG.

Spot on
I think you summarize the feelings of many people. I attended both VT and JMU and when I went to JMU it felt like the football experience was just not big boy football. Granted JMU may be the best program in the state today, but most would still say it's not big boy football and just feels different.

Why wouldn't FSU just financially entice 7 others to leave?
I have been following this for a long time and haven't posted on this matter. However, if and it's a big if, FSU decides to leave and got an invite from the BIG or SEC, they are looking at paying penalties and fees of at least $300,000,000. Rather than go that route, why not just offer $25M each to 7 other schools if that would break the GOR. Then those 7 schools could either be free to go to another conference that invited them or rebrand the new ACC into something that they want and jettison some of the schools that don't have a commitment to play big boy football. It saves FSU a ton of money, but I'm not sure how legal that would be.
