Posting History (339)

I’m not sure

Someone had said that, but Robie has not mentioned his name in any interviews and I haven’t seen him in any of the pictures. It would be great to add him to the mix. He’s a phenomenal athlete and has such a natural gift of wrestling. We will see though.

184 competition

For the weakest weight class the competition is super deep especially with the new 5 for 5 passing. The front runners are obviously Desiante and Bullock. Foard also may not be out of the conversation with them. He’s got a lot of raw talent and could be in that mix as well. The two freshmen Scott and Rocha could very well find themselves in the mix as well. Both solid recruits who if they can make jumps like we’ve seen out of true freshmen before could really make this thing interesting.

Make the team yes, but he wont be the rep

One of Blaza, Forrest or Davino will likely take the spot since they made the Senior World team they get the spot automatically if they want it.

I mean it just started

I’m sure things will heat up as exciting news arises. It doesn’t end until May 2027

It will be interesting to follow though

I feel like this is going to spread the wealth at first, but alot more transfers after the first year.

I think Rocha next year will be tough too

He’s physically very gifted. I think once he gets in the room he’s going to be really tough.

Feel like he probably will

Also wonder if Seidel plans to drop to 61 and give it a go at WTT’s.

Which is a better move

Most Olympic gymnasts don’t go to college. So it being an Olympic sport and hoping you get an Olympic gymnast from your school is almost nil. Does nothing for the school. At least with wrestling you get a return and can say you had an Olympic team member. Olympic gymnastics is like soccer or baseball. If you’re not already in the big league making money out of highschool you probably never will.

I disagree

TJ’s ceiling is way higher than Sonny’s. I think they both struggle with consistency, but I think the best TJ we have seen > the best Sonny we have seen. Big fan of Sonny and would love to see him put it all together and have consistent performances. I think 100% TJ at 184 gives us the best lineup so hopefully he can get back down there, but we will see.

It’s a win no matter how you look at it for me

TJ is extremely talented. His issues have been between the ears. Extremely difficult to perform at the highest level when it isn’t your primary focus. Rightfully so his focus was elsewhere. If he can get to 100% I don’t see how he’s not the guy next year either at 184 or 197. If he can’t get to 100% then I think just having him in the room will be good for him and whoever the starters are to push them.

The makings of a great story

He's been through alot. Tons of talent and all the potential in the world.

Some new entries for US open

70kg- Caleb Henson 70kg- Drew Gorman 74kg- Bryce Andonian 92kg- Sonny Sasso 125kg- Jimmy Mullen

I think Mullen can catch some of those guys

Mullen gained bulked up alot, but didn’t seem to get much stronger and looked like he lost some pop. I think Mullen’s issue is he hasn’t physically matured to the extent a lot of the other heavies have. He still looks physically young. I think for him once he gets that man strength and muscle density he will make a big jump. Hopefully it happens soon. Reminds me a little of Andy Smith, unfortunately for Andy by the time he became a man he had so many injuries.

Hwt clears out

Jimmy has an opening he’s just gotta make a little jump to get into AA contention for next year.

141

Sean Gray, David Hoffman, Chris Diaz, Zach Neibert, Devin Carter and Sully

I think Rozas will be good.

He's fast and athletic and has alot of room to improve coming from Louisiana. Keep in mind Eddie V was ranked #20 his senior year after states.

ACC is not interested in affiliate teams

All they care about is the money and getting TV coverage in as many places as possible. ACC wants full membership which is why Little Rock wouldn't work. App State is unlikely because they already have so many north Carolina schools. Oregon State is really the list of potential additions of schools with wrestling.

There is no criteria

Flo just caters to the big fan bases to keep them paying.

OKST bias

And he beat Caliendo (Iowa bias). Flo caters to the big fan bases. Only way an ACC guy gets ranked in the p4p is after march.

I don't see that

I dont see Ninninger or gaj ever being 165, Miller ever being 174 or burton ever being 184. With carini coming in hes the future 184. Campbell or Gaj/Ninninger will be odd man out depending on Bassett. That's not including Gorman who I think is having a great redshirt year.

Lol no need really

I think Carini is going to be a stud at 184. We need Wright to pan out and do a bulk job.

I like it more with Miller at 165

25: EV 33: Seidel / Campbell 41: Bo 49: Caleb 57: Gaj/Ninninger 65: Miller 74: Burton

That sucks

Makes NCST weaker which we don't want to see as a conference. Want to see the best guys go at their best and beat them. This also hurts ACC strength. Hope he heals up and makes it back next year even better.

Sounds like it's going to take big $$

Willie mentioned he thinks its going to take ALOT for him not to stay in NJ. He did say he's not saying it's not going to happen though.

Gotta keep end goal in mind

Trophies. Point blank period. Sacrificing this year for multiple trophies is worth it,

Agree

I mean you compare them to Dillon Campbells season last year. They are all having similar seasons or better. Some of these guys will end up being the odd man out. Hopefully they stick around a couple of years to continue to improve before they leave. If we go with Seidel this year I think we have to 100% we have to figure out how to keep DC. It’s going to be hard because I would assume next year you go with him as well with Bo at 141 and Caleb at 149. So DC might be looking at not being able to be a starter until his junior year. That’s going to take $$ and a lot of persuasion. For NN and Gaj it feels like their future here will be at 157. Only room for one. Hopefully we can hang on to both for as long as we can. It’s also going to be tough. A lot of the big wrestling schools have been able to hold on to those type of guys until their junior/senior years. Hopefully we can figure out how to do the same.

Agree about miller

I think a lot of this board doesn’t realize how good he’s been. I feel he’s probably well ahead of Gaj an NN. That being said to be fair to them I wouldn’t burn their shirt to bump them up to 157 mid season if neither feels physically ready. Let them battle it out at 157 next year for the spot. Also still holding out hope on Mac. He reminds me of Brady. Such a good wrestler and athlete just something between the ears.

That makes sense

They probably can't say anything about him yet.

Well this shakes things up

Miller at 149 is really exciting. He could be an AA threat there. Wonder why we aren't seeing Gage anywhere.

If that's the case I think that would be good

I think a lot of people are implying he come in and wrestle 2nd semester next year.

I personally say let him finish high-school

Allows for more continuity down the road. Also asking a kid to come in second semester, acclimate to college life and leap right into a jump in competition is a lot to ask. The best case scenario is appealing, but I say just let it happen when it happens.

A buddy of mine changed my mind on him

I think with the culture we have he would either conform or he just wouldn’t cut it. I think it’s worth a shot. Don’t think we get him. I think he’d have to redshirt next year unless he can come in and beat Eddie V.

Yeah he’s the one

From what I remember his dad was in the middle of it. I’d rather us just stay away. Don’t care how good he is. I just want guys like David McFadden, Mekhi, Sam Latona and Caleb Henson. If the guy doesn’t fit that mold I don’t want them. Don’t care what they bring.

Not really

If you look at rankings this is a best case scenario.

Too much drama

We are building a good thing, I don’t think he fits the culture.

Matscouts updated rankings and crystal ball

HS rankings Killian up to #10 Keegan down to #17 Rozas down slightly to #11 Bo remains #1 Melvin drops to #2 Fortier drops out of rankings Carini up to #3 Rocha down to #4 (unfortunate symptom of being on the west coast) Konopka up to #2 Crystal ball Eddie V- 5th DC- Blood Round Tom Crook- NR Gaj/Ninninger- Blood Round. Ethen Miller- R16 Ryan Burton- R16 Sergio- NR Bullock- NR Sonny- 8th Jimmy- NR Has VT coming in 12th

Jax won’t be officially with the team

He’s going to grey shirt so he won’t officially be with the team until next year.

I like what we have coming in

I’m high on Rocha. I think he’s going to be really good. Freak athlete with a lot of upside. Konopka is a great wrestler. Very savvy and technical. I think unquestionably from a wrestling standpoint he’s further along than Catka or Jimmy were at that age. They were just physically so superior to most highschool kids. The question for konopka is going to be if he can physically hang with the big guys in NCAA.

Agree

I also think people are underestimating miller. He’s very good and actually a 157. I think whoever doesn’t win the 149 spot this year just goes 157 next year and it’s better for both of them.

Two takeaways

I think DC benefited a lot from this tournament. I think he found some things to tweak and work during the break. I think we probably only see him in dual action going forward. Going to be interesting to see how they pick the starter between Gaj and Ninninger. Whoever they go with I think they need to give them another open or two. They both get better every time out and I think need more matches.
