I don’t believe he slotted at 125
His senior year he did not look like he’d ever make 125 and matscouts had projected him as a 133 even before that. I think some people on this board projected him at 125, but I don’t think that was realistic and I don’t see him being a 133 after this year if he can even make it now.

Here’s where I disagree
Eddie gets better against guys the more he wrestles them. I think he needs to feel guys.
Campbell needs more experience against tough guys to see what he needs to tweak to get himself on top of the podium.
Seidel i would like to see at 141 to see how he looks and if he can challenge Crook.
I think Gaj should go to patriot open and get some confidence built.
I send Sasso to give him a chance to improve his seeding. I don’t see him losing to the guys ranked below him so it really feels like he can only benefit from going.

If it were me
Outside of 174 and 184 I would send all of the starters. I’d probably send Desiante and Bullock to the patriot open. I’d throw Weader in at the patriot open at 174 as well and see how that shakes out.

Yeah I think they view him as a heavyweight
He’s never going to be a big heavyweight, but you look at the new generation of heavyweight’s I don’t think many of them will be very big. Dreshaun Ross will probably grow into a monster and Coby Merrill is an absolute unit, but he’s like 5’9.
Wrestling Board

Agree
He’s athletic, but he’s still big compared to a lot of the heavyweights this year. Most of the guys ranked ahead of him are smaller and frankly quicker than him. I think he’s still got a lot of them beat in the athleticism department, but he for sure needs to incorporate some hand fighting and tough clubs to set his stuff up. These smaller heavyweights are going to be able to avoid his shots from distance.
On another note he needs to stop going to his belly when he’s shooting so he can explode out when he misses.

Welp I think we learned a lot this weekend
Good:
1. We are going to be verryyy good here soon.
2. Campbell is legit and for sure in the AA conversation.
3. Ninninger is ready to go this year and while AA is a stretch it seems like he will at least grab us some points this year.
4. Burton is also in the AA conversation. He has some adjustments to make but he’s right there with those guys.
5. Sonny looks like he found something this weekend.
Bad:
1. Our transfers will not be impactful. They are both solid, but clearly the weak spots in the lineup.
2. Jimmy does not look good. Probably needs to get used to his bigger frame, but he is not wrestling well.
Other takes:
1. Eddie needs to fire more.
2. Crook looked fine.
3. Gaj looked tough. Tough wrestling up a weight against the competition he faced, but I think he’s going to be good. I’d say he just needs to go 157 the remainder of the year.
4. If Gage comes back second semester, I think he’s got a real shot at 174/184.

You dont
It’s also going to be tough to decide on who gets the go this year between Gaj and Ninninger. Gotta figure who goes this year shirts next year and the other is the 157 next year.
Wrestling Board

I think he outgrows 197
See the picture of him and Gwiz. He’s a junior in highschool. Two more years of growing I don’t see how he could make 197.

We need to get Konopka
We are looking good for the future from 125-197, but need a Hwt to take over for Mullen.
125- Rozas/Bassett
133- Campbell/Bassett
141- Seidel/Gorman/Campbell
149- Bassett/Ninninger/Gorman
157- Gaj/Henrich/Ninninger
165- Henrich/Burton/Miller/Weader
174- Wright/Burton/Miller/Carini/Fortier
184- Wright/Miller/Carini/Fortier
197- Rocha

I’d still take bottom two
They can still factor in somewhere and push Gaj/Nininger. Take talent when you can get it.
Wrestling Board

Nope
Hoping for one of the following in order:
1. Max Konopka
2. Paul Kenny
3. Clinton Sheperd
4. Arseni Kikiniou

Catka is tricky
He was in a very weak weight class when he was #1. While he is physically a beast he isn’t as athletic as a lot of the other guys.
Also Sasso was not super highly ranked coming out. He seemingly had a high ceiling because of his athleticism and funky style, but he’s honestly probably about where most pundits expected him to be.
Jimmy should be better than he is currently showing us though. I will give you that one.
Wrestling Board

Probably cautious
Finishing takedowns is probably the biggest hurdle going from highschool to college. He’s probably been experiencing that in the room and it’s going to take him some time to get the confidence in his shots.
A friend of mine who was a 4x D1 qualifier said his first year in the room he didn’t get a single take down.

I agree
I personally think the way Siedel wrestles he would be good at 141. I also think he’s bigger than people realize. DC seems to have the weight under control and looks great at 133. I say let Siedel go 141 and shirt him next year.
Wrestling Board
9 mo ago
Agree I say roll him out at 141
I think he’s big enough.
25/26
125- Eddie V
133- DC
141- Siedel
149- Ninninger
RS Henson
157- Miller
RS Gaj
165- Burton
174- Desiante
184- Bullock
Gage maybe competes if he gets big
197- Sasso
Hwt- Jimmy
26/27
125- Eddie
RS Rozas
133- DC
RS Dickman
141- Bo
RS Siedel
149- Henson
RS Nininger
157- Gaj
165- Burton
174- Desiante
184- Gage/Bullock
197- Sasso
Hwt- Jimmy
27/28
125- Rozas
133- DC
141- Siedel
149- Bo
157- Nininger
165- Miller
174- Burton
184- Gage/Rocha
197- Sasso/Rocha
Hwt- Jimmy

I don’t know about every weight
There are levels for a reason. I think it depends on the year and the weight. 125 and 197-Hwt I could see some D2 guys and below having some luck, but from 133-184 I’m saying there may be only a couple guys win a match at D1 NCAA’s.
Wrestling Board
9 mo ago
Tough to say. I think it depends on alot
I think Gorman with his injuries last year needs a redshirt to just adjust and stay healthy so I think Crook is it at 141.
Let’s say the plan next year is Bo at 149 and Caleb at 157. In that case there’s really no need in redshirting either Nininger or Gaj and you just see which one wins the job and redshirt them both next year.
If the plan is Bo at 141 next year and Caleb at 149 then I think you probably just roll with Nininger this year and let Gaj redshirt the year at 157 and redshirt Nininger next year.
If the plan is Bo at 141 and Caleb 157. Then I’d go with Gaj and redshirt him next year at 157 and have Nininger/Crook/Gorman at 149 next year.
There are still a lot of other factors to consider. It’s not a very clear answer I don’t think.

Really think with his athleticism if he could bulk up to 184 he could be really successful. Just needs to get those grades up!

TJ Stewart update anyone?
I know some people have nothing good to say about him. Yall can stay out of this conversation. If you ever met him he’s a great kid, very respectful and appreciative. He had alot of life hit him last year. It’s easy for adults to criticize a kid with limited life experience on how they deal with it. He’s got a ton of talent and should get a chance somewhere. Has anyone heard anything on him?

I would throw Seidel out this year
I think he’s ready to go and not sure how long he can hold 133. Burton needs a redshirt probably. Adjusting to college at the upper weights can be challenging.

You’re statement is true, but
That’s already happening. Which is why we were able to get Bassett and Miller. We don’t get them without Caleb and Mekhi, I believe that. Getting top recruits like Bo and Melvin will help a lot with bringing in other young recruits in.
It’s not this or that. It’s this and that.

Bo will have Sam, Caleb and BA in the room to roll with and sprinkle in JO who has been stopping in a lot.

Very happy to announce I was wrong
Didn’t think we had much of a chance. This is big news. Be interesting to see how the dominoes fall after this. Getting Basset and Miller will definitely bring in other good guys. Here’s a list of whose school list we made.
#4 Landon Sidun #1 @120
#11 Clinton Shepherd #4 @144
#14 Max Konopka #3 @215
#17 Arseni Kikiniou #6 @144
#20 Brock Rothermel #5 @120
#28 Cam Sontz #6 @120
#30 Jimmy Mastny #5 @190
#34 Maximus Fortier #7 @165
#41 Dale Corbin #7 @132
#52 Luke Hayden NR @165
#54 Steel Meyers NR @165

Don’t think it will happen
Honestly what they want I think VT checks most of the boxes more than the others. We are offering more money, I think our coaches align more with Bo and family when it comes to living life and the type of person you want to be. I think we have the money. I think we are missing the championship pedigree. Would love the basset family to come in and help change that but feels like they want to to something already established based off of the Iowa decision.
Wrestling Board
11 mo ago
Unfortunately I don’t think we will have what the bassets want
I think they are having a hard time finding a home because the level of program + RTC + money + a lineup they can all break = pretty much only Iowa. The weights they are at OKST and PSU are loaded at for the foreseeable future. Honestly with everything they want I think Iowa St or Michigan is s their best location

Made Sonny Amato’s final 7
Would be a big get. Take a little sting out of the Jayden James de-commit. That one’s going to hurt for a long time.
Wrestling Board

He had a lot going on
With his mom and being hurt. He’s a good young man, but I think he already struggled with self discipline (weight issues and conditioning) and throw in the extra stuff and it creates a bad situation.
Kid has all the talent in the world, just needs to hold himself accountable and get back on track and he will be fine.

133 is going to be tough to AA this year
It’s super deep. The top 20 guys are all studs and that’s not including Zach Redding or Yarbrough coming off injuries. Definitely need to have Seidel face tough competition early to see if he’s ready to be in AA contention before I would burn it. Feel like Campbell will be a fringe qualifier with how deep the weight is.

This is going to be a different kind of season
A lot of unknowns. Usually we know pretty much what to expect at most weights. This year I feel we are waiting to see for more than those we have a good idea about.
125- Known. Less than AA will be disappointing.
133- Complete unknown. If we go Campbell he showed glimpses, but mostly at 125 and looking at pictures he will probably never see that again. He’s a great athlete so a bump in improvement should be expected, but to what? If we go Seidel, how ready is he in a stacked weight? Studs like Figs and Wells are outside the top 12. Tall task for either to really break out.
141- Unknown. Can Crook maintain 141? How much better has he gotten? Can anyone else qualify at this weight?
149- Known. Anything less than winning is a disappointment.
157- Somewhere in between. Miller is a good wrestler no doubt. But how does he acclimate? Does he improve or does he regress?
165- Unknown. Assuming it’s Mac Church who was the surprise starter last year. Does he adjust better a year into the weight and improve?
174- Unknown. Big jump from SOCON to ACC. He will no longer be an unknown and people will watch him. Wollak coming from small school struggled because people started watching him.
184- Complete unknown. Bullock has never been consistent, but full of talent. Does Gage make a bump and jump in progression? Burton? He looks way too small from what I’ve seen from team pictures, but who knows.
197- Unknown. Can Sasso stay healthy? Didn’t see much from him against top competition last year.
Hwt- Known. Should be blood round or better.

Not sure I’d agree
At 157- I think Miller (addition) is better than Hipolito and Gaj has a higher upside down the road. Thats two guys to replace one guy.
At 184- This might be true if Gage Wright is the guy. He looks big right now, maybe 184 big. He didn’t have an amazing year last year, but crazy athlete. I think there could be a big jump with him. I know Burton was considered here, but he looks way too small for 184 right now.

I love when the incoming guys go to Jr’s
Gives a better idea of where they are at with alot of the best young college guys also entered
Wrestling Board
1 y ago
My concern is if he will be big enough
I think wrestling wise he should be able to be ready by ACCT time, but going from wrestling highschool 175 pounders to college 184 pounders is a big jump in horse power.
Would be nice to get a look at him at junior US open, but I don’t think that’s going to happen.
If coaches could figure out how to get someone like Kharchla, Aeillo, Ruth or someone in to train with TJ and see if that would entice him to stay that would be nice. Even if it’s for a year for TJ to rebound and build his stock back up.
Wrestling Board

My guess
125- Eddie V
133- Dillon Campbell or Aaron Seidel if he doesn’t shirt. If Seidel is ready I’d go with him. Not sure he will be able to hold 133 for long
141- Tom Crook. Gorman redshirt
149- Henson. Ninninger redshirt
157- Hipolito. Gaj redshirt
165- Mac Church. Gaj redshirt. Torres redshirt
174- Gage Wright. Burton redshirt. Torres redshirt
184- transfer or Burton if he’s big enough and ready to go
197- Sonny Sasso
Hwt- Jimmy Mullen
Torres is a sleeper to look out for. He’s very athletic and great offense just gets out scrambled at times. He also looks like he could get pretty big.

NCST has some hammers coming in
Zepeda, Denny and Tucker all coming in and they are all very good and deputy coming in the next
The thing about NCST is they are very good at developing guys. So they are always going to be relevant.
Rob Koll is a great recruiter. Those freshman at Stanford were recruited by Koll when he was on staff.
Yes, Stanford will be a problem, but NCST isn’t going anywhere and with Koll, Ramos and Joseph I’m more worried about UNC than Stanford.

ACC getting stronger
UNC seems to be primed to make a lot of noise.
Rob Koll put together a great coaching staff and has done very well on the recruiting trail in a short time.
They picked up Terukina from ISU last night and appears to have made another big pick up.
I believe UNC will be jumping into the fray with VT and NCST here soon and this will go from a two horse race to three.
Stanford and Pitt continue to recruit and develop well and will keep the dual season interesting, but not on the same level when it comes tournament time.
UVA had a real good ACC’s this year, but I don’t see them making any substantial jump anytime soon.
