I feel and understand your frustration
I love baseball and have grown to love VT athletics despite the obvious hurdles of having to watch the teams fall apart on a regular basis.
I hope whoever the next AD is (because there is no doubt that this will be coming in the next year or two) has some marketing sense.
In general, I think Virginia Tech has done a seriously poor job of marketing their sports, not only to fans but to prospective players. Everyone claims that money is the issue, but that can only get you so far. Without a passionate fan base to support your teams, people won't want to come play for you. A passionate fan base doesn't just show up overnight for teams that have consistently fallen short of even reasonable expectations.
Part of why football has had such steady fan support even during failing years is that the marketing of the game day experience carried it along.
Fans did not become indifferent, and things changed for the better.
But in the other sports, fans have become indifferent.
My point has been made. Thank you for sharing this disappointing photo. Hopefully someone will notice that something needs to radically change.

If so, it probably has to do with a bunch of factors combining.
A multitude of things
1. Coach likely to retire at the end of the next season.
2. Tension in the locker room between those who voted to possibly participate in the postseason or otherwise.
3. Money (or lack thereof)
4. Lack of alignment between coaches and higher ups that cause the program to look a mess/no direction.
5. Any other number of other factors.
What interests me is if there is a mass exodus, if CMY decides to make a return next year or perhaps a quiet exit early into the postseason.
At his age it has probably become tiresome to deal with constant roster turnover.
I for one choose to believe in CMY, but in this day and age, with as many issues as there seems to be surrounding the BB program at the moment, he may want to find a way to call it a day with honor.

I hope so. They will win less games against the conference and...
I will be less inclined to watch them. ND football never moved the needle for me, and for many other people. They will soon learn their delusions of grandeur are just that, delusions.

The distinction actually makes all of the difference.
Let's have a bit of a hypothetical conversation. Say for example, you have a business partner for a lot of different business, but not for, let's say, your restaurant chain. He has his own restaurant, that only he wants to benefit from. One year, your restaurant chain and his restaurant are up for a prestigious award in your city. Since he is only your partner in respect to other industries, but not your restaurant chain, you have no reason to advocate for him over you.
While advocating for your restaurant chain may have inadvertently put his restaurant down a notch, he never wanted to be in that business with you in the first place, so is it really his fault that you advocated for yourself?

Notre Dame is not in the conference for football
this is just the truth. I do not know why you keep acting like they are. This is not the first post I have seen where you claim this.

If it works out, it will be the talk of the town for years to come
if not, it will likely fade into obscurity. Hopefully with an out of the park offensive coordinator we will be great next season. Will be difficult if we have to fire him again though.

You have to expect that Franklin did at least a little research.
This type of hire could break both of their careers full stop. If he didn't trust Pry to do his job, and Pry didn't trust himself to rise above all of the baggage that comes along with this decision and do his best, then I don't think this decision would have been made.
Nothing happens in a vacuum, and I think this decision wasn't made in a foolhardy manner. (Though I could be wrong)

If the ACC was left out of the playoff
a lot of things could be set in motion. Some people will be very unhappy, and the perception of the ACC will be forever damaged.

What's the verdict?
Do we think the committee gives Alabama a pass into the playoffs, or do they actually apply their own logic and say it's a no go?

Was thinking about my App State mountaineers today
and how the job perception has fallen so far. Used to send people to big P4 jobs (Drinkwitz and Scott Satterfield) and have fallen into terrible mediocrity with their past two hires. Dowell Loggains seems to be doing a poor job all around and really just doesn't seem to be cut out for the job. If he stays around for more than one or two more seasons, I'd be surprised. JMU, who used to seem our inferior from a sports standpoint, is on trajectory to quickly surpass us for a lot of different reasons, mainly good coaching hires and proper support of their athletics. So interesting how JMU and App State appear to be quickly swapping spots. Their AD seems to be wise to who's a good fit or not, but this hire will determine their trajectory as a program and whether they will go the way of Memphis and Tulane or regress.

Yeah. I'm not super familiar with this guy BUT
now is not the time to get cold feet with our newfound funds. But maybe we don't have the funds for him, or Franklin sees something I don't. I'll trust the process regardless of what happens.

This has foul play written all over it.
The only people not up in arms are SEC and BIG10 homers. I was happy watching the playoffs last year because of the representation of a wide range of teams. I'm not going to watch if it's just an SEC BIG10 invitational.
FWIW, I don't actually think there is a huge difference between conferences anymore like people like to claim. You can base your superiority off of the star ratings of your recruiting class, and your transfer class, but we've had enough samples to see that this doesn't always equal a better team.
Also, for those who want an eye-test comparison of how teams perform; 19th ranked Tennessee from the big bad SEC just lost to Vanderbilt 45-24. Virginia Tech, who went 3-9 this season in the "oh so terrible ACC", lost to Vanderbilt 44-20. I understand this is just one sample, but if you look across a wider sample size, I'd be curious to see what other comparisons could be drawn if people tossed rankings out the window.
What I'm getting at, is that there is some obvious collusion, or exceptional groupthink, that has allowed for the ACC to be perceived as less when it's really not that way. Someone wants it this way, and fan bases of the SEC and BIG10 won't turn down the opportunity to say "we're better just because we are."

PSU supposedly losing out on Sitake
We'll see what they do, but it appears they REALLY screwed up firing JF. We won the lottery, and will get paid dividends for years to come.

You make a good point.
I'm an unfortunately ignorant realist who sometimes struggles to see when things I personally think as a positive may be seen as negative. I'll just sit back and enjoy this one.

I was called crazy for pointing out that a lot of blatant problems they've been experiencing have not even slightly improved. There's still time, but let's have a bit of realism.

And, while this is all speculation with no real insight
We may see more than just one or two conferences shedding a few members.

Call me crazy BUT
I believe the outcomes of this coaching carousel and the (possible) fiasco with the CFP will speed up some conference realignment plans that are already in play at some schools.

Occam's razor
Either Pop is just that bad or Montgomery is letting Drones play himself out for the remainder of his last season. Your choice, but I don't think Montgomery is so dense in the head he can't see what's going on around the field. That's why I believe he's letting Drones "save face" so to speak. Not that hard to see.
Football Board

I really think that Monty is playing Drones as this is his final game
(possibly ever). Monty came into this season definitely not expecting to take over the helm. He unfortunately has no ties to VT winning at this point and I think he really is just doing this to save Drones' face. But it's looking worse and worse with each passing moment.

Frustrating that some of the same issues that have been plaguing the team
are not disappearing. I don't know it all about basketball but I do know you can't stagnate when an issue is present.

I'd be really interested in hearing what the locker room feels about Monty
He seems like he's ready to move on to a new job as a HC, but I'd like to see him do something within VT. From the outside appears to be a genuine guy and really cares for the group. As much as football is a transactional game these days, he would be a great addition to the culture.

Really don't think Franklin was waiting on this job but if he was they really blew it not firing Norvell early on.

I very much hope the best for interim coach Montgomery. I hope he is retained in some way shape or form. He fits Virginia Tech well.

When this guy ends up being done with his career as a coach
I would like to see him take on some sort of role in the AD.

We'll never know until he's announced or we move on.
But I find it hard to believe that this isn't already a done deal.

This is going to be brutal for the fan base if he isn't our next HC
I don't think he's going anywhere else coaching at the rate other HCs are being retained though.

Saw his clip calling VT fans some colorful expletives earlier today.
Really disrespectful person in general. Should be taking the high road as VT fans and not giving him any engagement.

Whether or not he comes at this point is of minimal importance to me.
The pomp and circumstance of the possible hire is now gone.

I personally hope we NEVER hear about a head coaching hire.
Interim head coaches perpetually. Hokie purgatory.
