The pomp and circumstance of the possible hire is now gone.

We evidently already conceded everything.
So, our chips are all in….
If Franklin wants Arkansas, have at it!! That’s a crap job in an impossible conference in a foreign recruiting footprint.
That would be a bad decision.
But there is no more leverage than before, thats not correct.

Only thing left is Hog fans on X saying “But we’re SEC” and me responding “Yeah which is why he’s not taking that job unless he’s got a career death wish”. Just a no win scenario there.

He is not gonna coach anywhere next season.
Unless he absolutely cannot be away from the game for a year, the real power-play is to not take any job. Then, leverage Penn State for a big chunk of a buyout ….and then take a coaching job next year.
I have a feeling that’s what Sexton is doing.
As always, I have no information.
Yup.

And honestly I don’t care. I view him as a sugar high for VT. He’s likely to come in, win, and leave within a couple of years looting the program of coaches, staff, and players when he takes a job he actually wants putting us right back in the same place. If he really wanted the job, he would have signed already. Maybe he has in principle and he’s just taking advantage of being unattached to work networks but I’m sensing there’s more to it than that.

We want Franklin, but Sexton wants money. He would be just as happy with a better offer for Franklin and the highest offer possible from VT for a coach from the the next down tier of coaches.
How do you really fight that? If we say x date or we are moving on, who do we move on to? The same agent, sitting in the same seat. Is that really moving on?
Is Sexton saying to VT, "your new money puts you to where you will eat next, after the P2/bluebloods are filled. Be patient, I will get you a good one for who you are." If so he is already controlling where we go and who we can seriously negotiate with. Our only option against the Sexton scenario is to go to a coach not represented by Sexton. But do we really feel any of those are what we need?

coaches are going to go where he tells them to. Almost like he is marrying them off to the highest dowry.
I think the coaches have some input on where they want to go.

I think he will "steer" one to benefit another of his clients. Certainly not to a great degree but to some degree.

JF carries an impressive resume and high profile.
I get the initial excitement and potential surge in donations (which VT will need) if he’s hired. But when the raging hormones die down, it comes down to winning games.
JF is a great recruiter, but an average coach in terms of Xs and Os.
High school recruiting is not nearly as important in the NIL/Portal era:
Let’s say VT pays top dollar for JF AND his staff.
Even if they do a great job developing high school recruits, VT will end up losing them to bigger NIL deals and being the de facto farm team for other programs with deeper pockets.
VT will get sucked into the never ending arms race which we are not equipped to win.
Matches made in heaven don’t come with prices you can’t afford.

If that’s your conclusion by reading my post, you need to go back to elementary school and start at 2nd grade.
