We’ve hit The absolute low point of VT baseball!
Beautiful night! Home game! Million dollar facility! AND… Little fans! No pitching! Undisciplined play! Oh and losing to your new ‘in-state’ rivals Liberty 10-4 thru 5 complete. Thanks Whit !!

That picture is a......
visual reflection of Whit Babcock's tenure and results as the VT Athletic Director. It also is a visual commentary on Szefc's administration of the baseball program.

I feel and understand your frustration
I love baseball and have grown to love VT athletics despite the obvious hurdles of having to watch the teams fall apart on a regular basis. I hope whoever the next AD is (because there is no doubt that this will be coming in the next year or two) has some marketing sense. In general, I think Virginia Tech has done a seriously poor job of marketing their sports, not only to fans but to prospective players. Everyone claims that money is the issue, but that can only get you so far. Without a passionate fan base to support your teams, people won't want to come play for you. A passionate fan base doesn't just show up overnight for teams that have consistently fallen short of even reasonable expectations. Part of why football has had such steady fan support even during failing years is that the marketing of the game day experience carried it along. Fans did not become indifferent, and things changed for the better. But in the other sports, fans have become indifferent. My point has been made. Thank you for sharing this disappointing photo. Hopefully someone will notice that something needs to radically change.

Fan base not a problem for the Softball team, the baseball program
Needs a ‘whiz kid’ head coach like the softball team has that can recruit and develop hitters. Then hire an up and coming pitching coach that is rewarded for positive production. Better yet hire the softball coach to coach baseball. I know that’s a stretch, but how much difference is there coaching/teaching hitting in softball VRS coaching/teaching hitting in baseball?

I agree with you. I also went to the softball game @ Radford today first..
and there were at least 250 Hokie fans there, if not more. Probably 2-3 times what our home baseball team had. They have a little community growing and the fans are loving the experience!

Well softball is winning and ranked so there is that
If the team sucks out loud no one is going to go. ** Edited by AnotherTechW at 4/8/2026, 7:30:21 AM

Sadly, looking at our possible roster for next year, I think...
there will be more opportunities for even lower points unless we bring in some transfers that are higher caliber than we have been pulling in over the last few years.

Agree. Without a serious infusion of talent next year could be worse. There
simply is little talent on this team.

I’m surprised anyone is there other than the teams and VT support folks.
