Posting History (504)

Because it's a prestige thing for SMU

Ever since they got the death penalty, they have been small time. Over 30 years later, they finally have a chance to be in a conference at the top level again. Plus they don't need the money

Was about to mention this

BBC World News usually reports facts only. They don't have opinion-based programming

Good.

My Bears get their first round pick. I hope Young has a disastrous 2023 season, followed by success the rest of his career

That's a common result

Living like you're still a star long after the acting roles have dried up. Athletes have it happen all the time too

Eliminating graduate programs in math also

Those of you wasted time studying "numbers" should watch out

My buddy emigrated here from Ireland 10 years ago. Here's what he said:

Absolutely . Supermacs Eyer Square , good chip place . Aran Island - fantastic views and all round worth while day trip. The Kings Head Pub , good Irish style music and good food . If there is time hit up Connemara , very picturesque views of really rural Ireland . Galway Cathedral is pretty cool . Salthill Promenade nice walk with pubs

You're either on something, or you're onto something.

Even though the SEC is objectively a more attractive property than it was during the last negotiation, I don't think ESPN is going to have the resources available for a huge upgrade to the SEC contract next time. I think there will be a contraction in CFB viewership overall over the next decade, so while B1G and SEC are consolidating the most desirable programs, they will be fighting over a smaller and smaller overall pie ** Edited by GoobyPls at 8/7/2023, 10:34:52 AM

I suspect the same thing

VT's fall off in football (which is clearly the driver of realignment) the last decade could not have been more poorly timed. I think VT's athletics are headed back to where they were in the 1980's

Can confirm this. My in-laws are from NJ

and literally nobody there cares about college sports at all (unless Notre Dame is having a good year). It's all NFL, with MLB also getting some attention

I think we've seen peak college football

A lot of fans of teams that got "demoted" will tune out of NCAA football altogether, driving down TV ratings and eventually shrinking the sport overall. Look for programs to start de-emphasizing their football programs over the next 10 years. That will result in college football becoming a smaller, regional sport, and the money so many schools are chasing will dry up.

No, I doubt it

The Pac-# will collapse, the teams that don't find homes (Oregon St & Wazzu) will go to the MWC, and the ACC will become the Sick Man of Europe

Partially unrelated: how many schools are represented here?

This seems to be one of the most diverse communities to discuss realignment. Just off the top of my head, this particular board has posters from VT, UVA, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. Who am I missing?

My first roommate in the VT dorms was annoying

Classic overweight nerd who would be up late on early chat rooms in the mid-90's. Made it hard to sleep. A couple of years later, I was working at a postal processing plant and what looked like his bank statement (same name, addressed to his hometown) came across my screen. I sent it to Zimbabwe.

Won't lie, I think that's gorgeous

I wouldn't shell out the $$$ for it myself, but if it came with the house I'd definitely keep it as is

The area where the programmers work was like a funeral today

The cute young blonde who worked up there had her last day at work, as she's moving to another Midwest city with her boyfriend. The sadness amongst the remaining male software developers is palpable. She kinda looks like a young Elisha Cuthbert

My old apartment is on the right

I got hit by a drunk driver in the most slow-motion accident ever in front of that red building on the left. He must have been doing 4 mph at impact.

It ran in reruns on the USA network for years

Reason 3 - the "Play Stupid Games" factor. I don't exactly shed a tear

when people who openly disregard safety end up serving as bad examples for future generations

Me to Pete Best, early member of the Beatles

1. I made my network TV acting debut in a commercial that aired during the 2022 Independence Bowl, which aired on ABC 2. Ringo Starr is appearing tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which also airs on ABC 3. Ringo replaced Pete Best in The Beatles

Argentina is a mess. But I'm giving serious thought about retiring

to their neighbor Uruguay. Stable country, low crime, low cost of living (about $1200/month for a retired couple),
