Lots TFs...curious why don't wrestlers go for Pins more if TFs so easy?

well, lots of reasons, really....
IN a dual meet or championship tournament you'd rather have a pin for that extra team point/half point. But in tournaments like this there's no real incentive, so do what you need to do to win and get off the mat. Some guys are pretty easy to take down, but hard to turn. In that case, a guy may cut a guy after a takedown if he's not in good on some sort of pinning combination. Sometimes you can get a set of back points, but aren't really in a serious nearfall situation. Do that a couple times and you're pretty much in TF territory at that point. The 3 point takedowns have made that happen quicker. Sometimes a guy just kind of wants to work on his neutral stuff. Some guys kinda like to run up the score. A Tech is honestly a more impressive show of superiority. Just about anyone can get pinned if they get stuck. You can watch a match and say yeah, Joe got stuck and pinned, but he was the better wrestler. A Tech leaves no doubt about that second part. And then, some guys are just so bad-ass that they can catch and release their way to a TF in no time (see Basset, Bo). It's just cool.

This is the down side of the 3-pt takedown. It deemphasizes mat wrestling.
If you're good on your feet, all it takes is a few takedowns and one set of backs for a quick TF. Majority of backs come from tilt series which usually aren't pinning combinations ... unless you're wrestling a cuban freestyler ;) ** Edited by HokieToph at 1/12/2026, 5:42:25 PM
