Looks like Seidel & Burton (and others) are wrestling at F&M open tomorrow
Link to seeds below. On quick look, I see Seidel, Burton, Gorman, Weader and Parker F. For Seidel, makes a lot of sense that we would want to get him several matches this week since Midlands was his first competition and looks like there is good competition there, including a top 10 kid from Army among others. For Burton, assume he is wrestling unattached and coaches are still deciding whether to r-shirt him or not. https://godiplomats.com/news/2026/1/8/wrestling-pre-seeds...

Seeding Write-Up
As an aside, what a nice write-up they put out there for the tournament. That was a nice read. They had Seidel as a redshirt Freshman, but overall, it was nice to see some expansion of who's there instead of just listing the pre-seeds.

#7 James Conway (F&M)-184 would be a nice addition to our room next year.

Do unattached results count towards season record/ ACC seeding criteria?
I would assume they do, but I got to thinking about this when I saw that Seidel was wrestling attached at Midlands. Since it was 2nd semester, he could have wrestled unattached and not burned one of his 5 dates. There has to be a reason he wrestled attached and the only thing i could come up with he wanted the wins to count towards his career record at VT or seeding criteria for ACC's ? Anyone have any info on this?

I'm pretty damn sure they count of the redshirt gets pulled
i don't know what goes into the decision. Travel expenses might be paid differently for attached vs unattached maybe.

Yes, travel/expenses are not covered for unattached, and I don't think....
The status can be changed retroactively. So if a kid competes unattached now, you can't go back in the future and make it attached (and make it "count"). But yeah, any travel and entry fees can not be covered by the team. Can't use any gear provided by the school. The RTC *MAY* (speculating here) be able to cover it...I'm guessing this is probably the case.

Yeah the RTC pays for it 99% of the time

It doesn't change to attached, but it would count towards their record
and be used for seeding and qualification purposes. Agree that the RTC would be helping with expenses the school can't cover. Different money pools though, so it may influence the decision.

They do not "count" for any records or any official stats...
I guess unattached head to head results could come into play in any sort of coaches seeding meeting held... ** Edited by JoesterVT at 1/8/2026, 1:54:43 PM
