Texas Tech Vs. Texas, who should we pull for?
VT Chip, which team should us real `ole Hokies pull for? Hope the games are high scoring and not 1-0, 2-1 pitching duels. GO HOKIES, next year!

Well, I dislike Mike White and the teasips in general but I loath . .
. . . Gerri Glasco so hook'em horns for me. Four great pitchers on display. We know Glasco will try to make us think he has plan (he doesn't) with this half-dozen pitching changes. It will be interesting to see how White uses his, particularly his under-estimated #2.

Glasco seems to have the proverbial horse shoe up his posterior. A lot of
horse shoes around, apparently, in Lubbock- and even in Oklahoma City.

I do not like either team very much but Texas Tech has been the center of
all the post season drama. At some point they are the problem not everyone else. I want to like Glasco because of his story but he makes it nearly impossible to do so. The known tampering with other teams players is also pretty bad but they are hardly the only ones doing it.

I can see why Texas Tech is full of drama
I guess it's inevitable for players to move around in this new portal/NIL era, but I really don't like the way Texas Tech has navigated this. There was so much drama because the players they poached were mostly from really good teams and they poached their stars. Florida, UCLA, Tennesee - they're not just getting players that were struggling for playing time on their teams (e.g., LeGette) or players that just wanted to move up to higher competition (e.g. Foster), Texas Tech was poaching the stars of WSWS-caliber teams. Really leaves a bad taste. Maybe all teams will move that way; in the meantime, I really hope Texas Tech looses.

Devils advocate; those blue bloods didn’t invest in their stars as much as
Texas Tech was willing to…they’re the ones raising the $$ and also those girls are not just in it for the pay…their grit and determination shows they WANT to win for themselves and their team U of Texas has all the $$ in the world and won it last year. If they want to spend and play the game to win the way it’s done now, they have the resources. Texas Tech has invested to win and they’ve got players who bought in to win (not all were blue blood transfers…Davis came from ULL with Glasco. White, Walton of UF and Glasco are not my favorite people but I’ll take Glasco and how he’s worked his way up for this over the other two a-holes Go Raiders. Win one for the “Techs” of the world (our university has FAR more in common with TT than UT…except for the oil money) Honestly if you’re cheering for UT over TT it may be because you’re a bit jealous they’ve paid to play and win…and we haven’t at that level. But UT is the UNC/UVa of Texas Once Nebraska lost….for me it was UCLA or TTech I’m all out on SEC winning anything. Anytime that conference falls short of a natty that makes me happy ** Edited by hokiepro at 6/2/2026, 1:11:12 PM

It’s not the money spent, it’s the tampering/cheating
I’m all for players making $$ and if schools don’t want to pay their stars that’s on them. But enter the portal 1st and then get your bag. How would everyone here feel if another school poached Cori McMillan, Keely, one of the Emma’s in the middle of a season? You wouldn’t like them either.

Sure. Isn’t that the NCAA’s issue though?
Until they do what they’re supposed to do an enforce SOME kind of rules…harshly…it’s all fair. Honestly I chuckle at the SEC whining about it because now they can’t cheat more than anyone else…like they all had done for years. Sorry but your Vols were guilty long before TT came along

If you think the SEC were the only ones cheating, agree to disagree
The SEC did not have the market cornered on cheating. Plus even then it was only football and basketball where the cheating was happening. So I guess the first VT athlete who leaves for a bag that was offered while playing for the Hokies, we will just say it’s fair and move on, got it. This has definitely leveled the playing field, but just because something is semi legal/questionable/etc doesn’t make it right.

That’s already happened
In softball Grein to Oregon WBB Amoore to UK Baseball Marciano to Auburn Basketball Several (Neo, Nickel, etc etc) Football Starting OT to Auburn 1st round draft CB to LSU Now maybe that we’re getting serious we won’t always lose these battles

But were any of them contacted in the middle of a season while at VT?
Everyone has transfers. To say all of those were tampered with while playing at VT isn’t true. Some needed a fresh start, Amoore left because her coach did, not because UK contacted her behind our backs. Texas Tech was contacting players in the middle of last spring season and signing them, that’s tampering.

Lsu tampered with Delane
So did OSU

I think contact......
in season happens a lot, probably more than people realize or are willing to admit. Given the furor swirling around TT, is it the contact or the likely deal making before the season is complete? The whole thing screams sleaze.

Truth.
There’s been under the table cheating in the major conferences in football and men’s basketball for many years, VT included.

The SEC,......
acronym for "So Everybody Cheats," has been doing it far longer, top to bottom, than any other conference still existing today. However, the old Southwest Athletic Conference is still worthy of a Lifetime Achievement Award. All conferences have had at least some schools that cheated with impunity but, top to bottom the SEC and SWAC were the gold standard. Any school that says they have not cheated likely just has not been caught yet. Given the thickness of the rulebook the distinguishing factor is the depth of rule breaking. Some are analogous to 85 in a 65 but, others are more like 120 in a 25.

Yeah, the old SWAC definitely can say “hold my beer”!

True. Except $EC wa$ a pro at it.

TT is a Pro Team, UT is semi-pro
The days of amateur softball, or any major college sport for that matter, are long gone. TT made no bones about simply going out and buying a winning program.....and, they succeeded, even with a mediocre coach. We are looking at the future. Not sure VT can run in this race. We can scrape up $100k poppin' it, while they can pay one player a million bucks. Maybe the new AD at Tech will have more interest in SB than the present guy. ??
